Show THE Page Four GOLDEN EAGLE Tuesday April 8 1968 Crowded (losses Are crowded classes a problem in the colleges of today? In many institutions it is but at College of Eastern Utah a successful effort is overcoming this problem to Dean Walton According Dean of Instruction at CEU the majority of the classes at the college are limited to a maximum of 50 students In some of the more difficult courses such as chemistry and physics the in dividual class enrollment is less than 50 Pictured above we see Wilson Henderson Professor of Physics at CEU teaching his personalized University Physics The compact nature of the class allows him an opportunity to assure the success of every student At the College of Eastern Utah emphasis is on the student rather than research the Junior College teacher has more time to work with each student According to Prof Henderson limited cnrallmcnt in classes is especially important in the exact sciences In many of the science courses a great portion of the information is of a detailed nature Nothing can be left out or the student becomes lost A student given an opportunity to consult with the instructor frequently has a distinct advantage over the student subjected to a large and crowded class Prof Henderson goes on to explain that learning comes when a person “does” something rather than merely listening or observing In small classes the student can experiment with the application of the subject until he gets a feeling for it or comprehends the information Prof Henderson giving personal attention to his Blood Bank at ed physics class CEU The Blood Bank under the supervision of Mrs Nay with the cooperation of the Red Cross completed a somewhat successful drive for blood Drawing both from the community and college studentbody and faculty the Red Cross had set its goal at 150 pints but they only received about 80 pints Mrs Nay stated that "I thought the turn out has been but it has not been as good profitable as in the past two years” Donating their time effort and some blood were several local doctors: Drs Spencer Whiting Wright and Gorcshic and Mrs Nay a registered nurse We would like to thank these people for giving us a chance to show those in need of blood that we care Doug Barker enjoys the experience of donating blood to the Red Cross Mr Henderson in reviewing the success of former students attributes their present achievements to their close contact with instructors at CEU One example is Dan Wagner who graduated with the top grade point average and stoxl second among all Gvil ABC News The oncoming quarter promises to be a very exciting one for members of the ABC club The beginning of spring inspires outdoor parties and activities And also the preparation for the end of school Engineering grads at U of U in He established a framework for his success in a program at CEU Another example is Burt Bunnell senior of U of U who recently won an engineering scholarship to MIT Both of these students attended small science classes in chemistry and physics while at CEU They are only two of the many College of Eastern Utah students who have succeeded due to individual interest and attention on the part of the instructors ’67 According to Brent West Director of College Relations at CEU "Quality education with a personalized approach” remains to be the school motto university One of the officers of the ABC club has transferred to another college The first thing the ABCs will do it elect a new secretary to replace Diana Craig Diana Craig has done a wonderful job during the past two quarters We would like to thank her for her contribution to the club and for the work she has done for us make BELVA’S your Quinn and Ray Guyman relax after donating blood to the Red Cross Sportswear Centerl |
