“Desire Under the Elms” March 6 and 7th Curtain time will be 8 o'clock pm in Geary Theatre This outstanding production is being produced through the efforts of the college and Delta Psi Omega (National Junior College Fraternity for Theatre) Eugene O’Neill is considered to be America's greatest playwright and in the eyes of many critics is acclaimed to be the “best” since Shakespeare “Desire Under the Elms’’ surrounds a small New England farm family and their inner-grou-p struggle The setting occupies the period during the early 1800's O’Neill attempts through this story to portray man’s values both materialistic and spiritual and his unwillingness to com- production will be Sue Geary playing the part of Abbie with Brent Gardner playing the old man’s son The old farmer with the sought after wealth will be portrayed by Lee Johnson the acting director of the CEU Department of Speech and Theatre Arts Two brothers of Abbie's lover will be portrayed in supporting roles by James Bowen and Ricky Gilbert A number of contributing roles will come from the College of Eastern Utah beginning acting class promise The story revolves around a conflict within a girl named Abide and her conflicting motives for money and man In the play the viewer will find the young girl Abbie marrying a man twice her age for the possession of his wealth and falling in love with the old man’s son The conflict and struggle within Abbie envelopes her desire to have both Playwright O'Neill lived from to 1953 dominating the theatre stage during the 1920’s and 30's In many theatrical settings he is still recognized as the 1882 world’s most influential figure in contemporary drama O’Neill had the honor of being Pulitzer winner many times over in addition to being a Nobel prize winner Taking which were connected in the center by a gigantic heart which seemed suspended in mid air from the ceiling At one end of the hall was the band and at the opposite end was a large heart which
