' i Si nrw i '?r N- - sir? - - In New iuy View” one of Dean FauseU's most famous paintings A part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art York it was loaned to the White House during the Eisenhower administration A favorite painting he hung it over his desk in his White House office The College of Eastern Utah has many donors toward its scholastic program but none so gracious as the Helper’s Women's Club This organization beloigs to the National Federation of Women’s Clubs and by the Federation’s program this woman's club is given a list of activities to follow This list falls into two categories that of Flueation and Intcrnaional activities COMING UP February 9— Baketball Away Rangely February 10— Basketball Away Rangely February 15— Dean Fausett Assembly third period ception at 8:00 pm Re- Basketball Home College of Southern Idaho February 17— Basketball Home Northwest Community February 18— 7 the HelIn the year the entered Club Women’s per's Shell Oil Contest In this National Grntcst the Women's Clubs of America compete by 1966-19G- their previous achievements In entering this contest the Helper's Women’s Club brought honors to Carbon County by winning In under the leaderof Mrs Peggy Larsen the ship Helper's Women's Club won $500 from the Shell Oil Company In seeing what great accomplishments this organization has the Federal Government added 9 times the amount of $500 This $5000 was donated to the College of Eastern Utah for their scholarship program At the present this organizaEtta tion is headed by Mrs 19GG-196- 7 Diamanti who was also the President of the Utah Federation of Women's Clubs and is also the acting International hostess which takes her all over the country This Thursday February 8 19G8 he Helper’s Women's Club will present an International Tea in Helper Each woman has been assigned to bring a dish representing a different country At this tea several students from different places will represent CEU The students are Almid Nassir Nahid Ilossey-nia- n d Ahdollah Hosscynian Enami Daryoush Shams Ilassan Nami Parulz Khash-moa- d Hamid Saealian and Massaud Forghan representing Iran Mikito Mizutanl and Michiko Takei representing Japan and last is Pam Chung who will represent the United Stales The purpose of the tea is to acquaint this organization with different cultures ett is a quadruple threat with a paint brush Besides being an internationally known portrait painter Mr Fausett has also achieved recognition as a landscape painter watercolorist and a mural painter As a renowned portrait painter Mr Fausett has painted such personalities as Sir Alexander Fleming Ezra Taft Benson The Duke and Duchess of Windsor Dr Carl Eyring J Bracken Lee President George Albert Smith Dr John A Widtsoe Eugene Ormandy Grant Johan-ncsso-n Grandma Moses Charles Steen Dr and Mrs Harvey Fletcher Mr Fausett is also noted as the creator of some nationally known murals Some of his more famous murals are “The Training of the Bomber Pilot" which is now installer at the Air Force Academy “Global Power” in the national capitol building “Brotherhood of Man” in the building for the Brotherhood of the National Conference of Christians and Jews in New York and ‘The Four Chaplains” in Pittsburgh “The Training of the Bomber Pilot” gained Mr Fausett the Stone-hi- ll Medal of the National Society of Mural Painters for the best mural done by an artist over thirty years of age Honors and awards have been showered on Mr Fausett A brief list of his awards includes the Carnegie Institute International Prize selection as one of the "Ten Best of 1911” by Art News a Tiffany Foundation Fellowship and the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship Now living in Dorset Vermont and New York !Xan Fausett has recently been honored by Brigham Young University with a retrospective exhibition of his paintings and drawings A real student of Renaissance art period Mr Fausett traveled the continent extensively to the study techniques which the masters of that age used to achieve such realism His technique reflect? many of the characteristics of the Renaissance His ever continuing period studies of light color optics and the techniques of the old masters have motivated him to try to develop a new advanced field in the study of color in light Using this field for a basis he hopes to form a corporation with his proteges and students to explore its possible applications in the home in the gallery in public architecture and institutions at present Mah-mou- CEU's student library assistants whose picture was inadvertently left out of the January 25 Issue Left to right are Herman Nava Marianne Allred Janet Thorpe Kathleen Knight and Eileen |
