the Golden Eagle for giving me the opportunity to be a guest editor this week I want especially to take this opportunity to thank the studentbody for getting the school year off to such a good start The activities on campus have all been very successful and I have ven found students interested in studying The spirit of CEU is great and the participation in homecoming activities demonstrates this fact I also wish to congratulate Jackson Rich Marie Catherine Dory Judy and Maylccn for their leadership and long hours spent administering student affairs so efficiently and for injecting their contagious enthusiasm into the spirit of CEU If the studentbody will continue to cooperate and work hard CEU is destined to have the greatest year in its history Students should also realize that going to college has several d purposes In America today every citizen should be of the many opportunities available If a student takes advantage at CEU he will receive rot only a liberal but a education— socially physically academically and spiritually As Dean of Students I want to do all I can to help every student succeed in reaching his goals at CEU My door is always open for this purpose I challenge you to participate in the activities that will help you become a mature well adjusted person Dr Sclman well-inform- well-balanc- ed Squawks and Chirps There seems to be a great deal of something called "Americanism" as the Basic Communication classes described a couple of weeks ago in this state of Utah today This freedom in Americanism was shown in a demonstration at Utah's Stale Capitol in protest against the raising of Utah’s schools’ tuitions It is great to have this freedom in expressing one’s opinions However this freedom was somewhat abused When an organization wishes to exinstitu press an opinion it has no right to use the name of another tion without consent In the staff box I received a letter from the College of Southern Utah The letter follows: Editor of College Paper College of Eastern Utah Price Utah To The Editor: We wish to bring to light certain facts concerning the march held on October 24 19G7 against the raising of tuition newsA CSU poster into the Geary Theatre Monday night at 6:30 pm he would probably have experienced an acute case of nostalgia as he witnessed the Homecoming Skit eliminations A sentimentalist wouldn’t have a chance against the sincere efforts of six groups to stay in competition for the best skit The Dorms began the festivities with a meeting between celebrities vintage 1958 such as Marilyn Monroe Ike Khrusch-e- v Hugh Hefner John Wayne Casfo a representative of the John Birch SkKicty and characters from the future If a conit clusion could be reached would be that future characters will misunderstand the action of 1958 as much as the actors did The Freshman Class then gave a taste of the year 1939 featuring Charlie Chaplin and asociates old songs and dances and CEU alumni A challenge to youth ended the travel into history The Ski Club presented a satire which showed how unprepared America was for World War II A sign of that time was America’s willingness to prepare The Institute emphasized the importance of music and maintained that music itself is a sign of the times This was proven by the use of dances and songs which marked periods of time The Sophomore Class presented a skit in three acts which showed flying saucers to be a sign of our time— 1967 As two hippies were transported to the moon and back it was evident that this could very well be a permanent sign of our time The ABC Club presented a look at the year 1942 and what might have happened on the CEU campus then Even though every skit was a winner only five of them could go to the final judging and after being evaluated the skits of the Freshman class Sophomo r e class Institute Dorms and ABC Club received the semifinal honors With the high caliber of skits it is asured that the competition for the trophy will be keener than ever three sclctions which concluded the show As a whole the concert was very well done The studnts who atended can see that the music department of CEU is determined to make this a good musical year for all concerned Many hours of practice and preparation were rewarded by the student’s response to this well-doprogram ne The Pep Squad window display at Price Trading Co Just one of “What did you think of the Twelfth Night"? 1 I thought the play was just splendid The acting was magnificent and I highly recommend this play for the enjoyment of anyone Carol Ingram 2 To put the play in so many words I would have rather seen Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton They are really the Shakespearean actors of the 20th century Greg Payne 3 I felt that the play was terrific but I felt that the lines in whol were too deep for me to follow Who really knows?
