committed to the causes she chose She was devoted to her daughter and grandchildren and was known by them as the "queen of the perfect gift" because of her knack for choosing just the right Lea Keane rejoined the Sacred Circle and returned to the Great Spirit on Aug thing Norma was preceded In death by her husband Ed daughter Cassie and son Sean She is loved dearly by her surviving daughter Teresa 1998 Norma was proud 11 of the fact that she was bom on the Cherokee Hardman and John Hardman her grandchildren Terri Katie and Tracey Mendon Utah Kristin and Lori Brown Reno Nev her two Jordan and Hunter and her sisters Betty Morris Torrance Calif and Ann Lubahan Eugene Ore Norma had many wonderful friends m Cache Valley and across the country and her drive and enthusiasm for Improving our community wilt be remembered by all who knew her As was her way Norma has requested a simple conclusion to her extraordinary life Cremation arrangements will be handled by Nelson Funeral Home and a private Native ceremony for Immediate family wM be conducted by Amy Cortese Foundation for Sha manic Studies Salt Lake City Personal expressions of remembrance and celebration of Nonna's life can be sent to her family do son-in-la- reservation 26 1920 the same year women got the vote Although her life would take her many places and far from her Native roots she developed a great Interest and love of her Native culture later In Nfe As a young woman Norma sang in a trio with her two sisters Ann and Betty The three known as the Kayne Sisters performed with Ted Lewis and his orchestra on the In Venita OMa on Oct vaudeville circuit traveling by train and playing some of the most celebrated theaters of their day During World War II they oined the USO and traveled with Patton's 3rd Armored Division across Europe and were thought to be the first civilian American women Into Ger- many during the war They were among the first liberators of Dachau and witnessed firsthand the horrors of the Holocaust The trio also sang for the troops In Manila Guam and Bermuda traveling by ship and Nelson Fun oral Home dodging live mine fields Norma married Edward Keane a radio announcer from Boston at - Spirit if a Warrior I have seen a thousand wars through eyes accustonwd to death Trod a thousand battlefields in bare feet sandals On horse back and In boots Thrown a thousand rocks a thousand spears Shot a thousand arrows a thousand bullets Launched a thousand rockets sea on the way home from the Caribbean and eventually settled Los Angeles Calif Ed was later killed in a car accident and Nonna became a single mother working full time and raising three children In The experience developed her independent rebel spirit which was so evident to those who knew her In 1982 w Norma moved to Logan and throughout the years had become Involved In many causes I know the thousand faces of Including public transit local politics needed stop lights a homeless shelter and Ross Perot Most recently Norma had been lending her time and expertise to a Las Vegas-base- d production company to produce a documentary for public television on the contributions of Native Americans during World Warll Norma has also written a book about her World War II experiences excerpts of which will be Included in the documentary Spirit Wanton to air on public television in 1999 She also had been promoting the creation of a national death I have seen them all a thousand times over I have been them all through a thousand different hosts I have left thousands of grieving families Still like time and war I go
