Show Pag 14 — The Herald Journal Logan Utah Sunday October 26 1997 Your viow some people criticize the city for taking too long to complete the park In that period of time I have also observed construction of two retention ponds located on the north end of the park I learned that the purpose of the retention ponds is to prevent storm water r runoff from a possible storm from flooding homes in the area I also learned that a study to determine such a storm was conducted around 1982 to determine whether homes in the bench area would be at risk With as much talk as there has been about the El Nino weather phenomenon forecasted this winter one must at least wonder what that might mean for the bench area Continued from Page II election" "The Mine old faces in the same old places" and "I thought he or she would win and didn't really need my vote" One probably has the greatest 100-yea- opportunity to influence the democratic process of a commu- nity and see results at the local level than they do in many of the larger state and national elec- tions I challenge the registered voters of my little town of Richmond where the turnout at the primary was particularly poor to become informed and vote There is time to become informed Support candidates who represent your ideas for local government improvement and encourage your friends and neighbors to do like- As fur the park if you have not seen it lately you should know that more development the wait for grass The Gibbons Mount Logan has occurred in the last two years of the park project than any other time since 1982 A sand volleyball pit has been installed along with a restroom sidewalks for walking and jogging Trees have been planted by a host of volunteers two parking lots now have asphalt and irrigation lines have bran installed Speaking of irrigation lines there has been some criticism about the length of time it is taking to have grass ready to play on at the park I would encourage critics to remember that more has been accomplished at the park in the last two years and a few more months is certainly worth Perk is also an important link in the city's plans to connect the park via trail to the Devere and Velda Harris Park and Nature Preserve at Dry Canyon My family and I appreciate Mayor Darla Clark and the city employees for the time they have spent to make this park a success I support Mayor Clark in her write-i- n campaign and with her continued support I look forward to watching the progress at the park Let's remember we're creating a park for generations to enjoy and decades to come Brad Jenkins Logan This vote will be a write-i- n lb the editor this is not possible? I'm aware that some people felt that their favorite candidates were automatic "shoo ins” and How sad it is that the recent primary election received such poor support from our citizens here in Logan Some voting districts had only approximately one they were very surprised at the election results It seems to me turned out to cast their ballots Where is our pride of citizenship responsibility? Think about bow small is the number of people in our community who are actually making the choice of who serves Personally I believe this will be a very interesting race with in 10 that we’ve had several "write in" campaigns here in Logan and now we have another one registered voters who approaching as mayor or council persons Folks we have inherited a pre- cious right to choose our public officials and we should honor it How many places in this "old world” can you think of where good people participating which u as it should be Citizens let's have everyone who is registered get out and vote Thanks to Mayor Daria Clark's "write in” campaign I'll be able to vote for her again Eldon Hooper Logan wise I hope to read in The Herald Journal after the November elections that in all of the communities in Cache County Richmond had the greatest participation Leslie S Erickson Richmond Millville mayor of man a integrity To the editor: For the past four years I have been married to a city councilman in a small town I've seen first hand the number of hours that go into researching subjects that are not necessarily in one's realm of expertise I've seen the number of sleepless nights spent as one wrestles with balancing the needs of a growing community now and for the future with the cost of those needs to the community now and in the future The answers to these questions are never easy and no two people ever see the solutions exactly the same I have concluded that whatever our personal views on the challenges facing our communities we owe those persons who are willing to step up and try to And solutions our respect and gratitude I -- live in Millville I have observed first hand the exceptional efforts of our fine mayor Glen Stringham Being somewhat new to the community I did not know the Stringhams before Glen served as our mayor The rest of the community however did He1 won by a ca (write-i- n was known in our community as a hard working man who loved his community and would serve with integrity Many people encouraged me to cast my vote in “ 'ibM& " U 'I his favor Over the past four years I have watched him work almost full time on behalf of the citizens of Millville He has met with citizens to seek their council and to answer their questions He has sought expert opinions from many sources as he has tried to sort out which options would best serve our community not just for today hut for years to come He has led a council that has had great pressures placed upon it both from large developers from without and businesses and residents from within Our form of government was created by design to be contentious in nature Two good people can have totally opposite political opinions and still both he good people Sometimes in a small community where we all know each other we tend to forget that It is OK to have a difference of opinion that is what the political process is all about It is not OK to engage in innuendo and character assassination when our political viewpoints differ One who is willing to give so freely of his time and energy on our behalf is deserving of our respect and appreciation as our neighbor whether we agree politically or not I have found Mayor Stringham to be the hard working man of integrity that he was represented to me as being and I will be very pleased to give him my vote again on Nov 4 OUR MONEY MARKET RATES ARE GUARANTEED TO STAY high ’till the (That’s six months in cattle time) The Guaranteed Great Rate Money Market Account Great because for at least six months you’ll get a surprisingly Sherrie Mortensen Millville high rate guaranteed plus easy access to your cash Then if Clark wins vote with park efforts To the editor Logan city is a great place to live work mid play I emphasize “PLAY" because Logan has some of the greatest parks in the stale One in particular is Mount Logan Park under construction located at 1400 East and Eastridge Drive Being a resident of the Giffside area I am very excited to see a new park developed in this part of town I understand from longtime residents in m hood that this park the works since 1981 Since construction bej two years ago I have the rate rises above your great opening rate you’ll get the new If your balance changes you will receive the guaranteed minimum rate for that tier even higher rate It’s a great rate with no ifs ands or bull login: AmmI pnmtagr jrirWi APYa)a( i lb At Mom rtMnmWftr iW aa warn i l If 210 I iM Imnr iriNnHiii l KV1V7 KMn rfcipr w 750-030- 3 (in Fred Mcyrr) Brigham City: 734-945- 4 m4 mm itmiy nlaaAtAiwIinulVIIM fwpiewlaHllUr— iIWifi b irFl IliinTt thr AHY llm ir tmiulirInfamy hSUKWOlIf M— tirr tHwimnrliBS w4Aimlrtir nr tat Uiiwii"ifclMWrliHi BlWliSLSQItfcr idrytiil4wmm4ArTrf f -- — - Maim alwM tilUrMl- - liMiliinil i im - wa if muAr I I iw f k ATM: iWtuw- - limit-- 4 1 i Iwi-frw- c ilMiwult yT nnlhmly Hwtrf wfcidl maf be kf Ant f tmim 4cbil m aimilar aria I - |
