That’s what Randall Andersen likes to hear He works as an engineer for the City of Logan during the day But at night he comes to the rescue of aquarium owners who don't want the hassle of cleaning and maintaining their tanks Yes he makes house calls Andersen has been interested in tropical fish since he was 19 At one time he had 32 tanks in his basement where he raised fish and sold them to local pet stores Today he only has two tanks at home But he hasn't lost interest in the hobby About five yean ago his wife pointed out that people were always asking him for help So why not go into business? Andersen now operates Aquarium TechfTropical Fish Environments out of the back of his van He has 14 accounts including homes and businesses with tanks ranging in size from 25 gallonslo 135 gallons He’s taking's business class now and hopes to expand his operation in the future Most of the tanks he works with hold 55 gallons but he’s willing to clean and maintain tanks of any size There's really nothing to it Andersen said it only takes about two hours a month to nave a healthy tank “A lot of people like to buy it set it up and lode at it” he said But “they don't want the mess" So every 4-- 5 weeks Andersen drives up to his clients' homes or businesses ready to tackle the slime and muck in their tanks One of the first things he does is check the fish to make sure they’re happy and healthy He carries some mcdicaticM's to help but “I pfefti' Inkin' tenance rather than being a fish doctor” He drains and replaces water in each tank checking it for proper salinity pH and hardness He puts rocks and plastic plants into a solution to dean diem of algae and siphons gunk from the gravel Andersen helps set up new tanks maintain existing ones and he provides aquarium owners with equipment and supplies He also offers advice to those who ask “What have I done wrong?" or “What do I need to do here?"
