in the last or so Halloween rocketed past Thanksgiving to become die predominant American fall holiday trailing only Christmas as die year’s occasion most decorated-fo- r What mice was a chance for the kids to dress up for a few hours and cadge candy from die neighbors has metamorphosed into a holiday season that stretches throughout the month of October In fact the season is so popular that the number of parties on Halloween is nearly the same as on New Year’s “Perhaps baby boomers have embraced Halloween because they were the first generation to really go They seem to love die opportuto nity recapture a portion of their childhood and even share that with their own children” says Zella Junkin director of consumer affairs for Wilton Industries Inc a leading manufacturer of cake decorating and baking supplies According to Junkin this new Hal- loween season is tailor-mad-e for the host hostess to celewho or wants busy brate with friends and family Halloween isn’t a study holiday — it’s fun and informal People like to dress up in costumes and maybe put on a new personality for the day They don’t want to focus on fancy food or formal table service An party for family friends and neighbors is the perfect way to entertain for and Halloween By serving buffet-styl- e letting guests help themselves this is a party that the host and hostess will enjoy as much as their guests “I like to serve recipes that I know everyone will enjoy — but with a unique twist — while still using traditional ingredients” Junkin said “It’s like putting a Halloween costume on the rood by dressing it up a hit” The main course of Junkin’s Halloween menu is a devilishly tasty roasted pumpkin black bean chili that can even be served in a hollowed-ou- t pumpkin Pumpkins are the symbol of Halloween and the flavor of roasted pumpkin blends perfectly with the black beans and chili seasonings lb accompany the savory chili try simple salad side dishes like die with candied walnuts and
