Show annexation OF PANAMA senator morgan exola ns the purpose of his Reso resolute luton on after the disposal of routine morn ing business in the senate thursday mr morgan called for the reading at 0 the bill introduced by bim him providing for th the annexation of panama to the united states and also of the resola tion directing the president to enter into treat treaties lesk for the construction ot of a canal via the nicaragua route he then ent entered ergol upon a formal tion of the two measures mr mor gan spoke of the difficulties which the country has encountered in panama r saying that they are not of the coil conn A try a seeking but were due to the pre elpi tancy ot of the president of the unit ed states it was however imps sible to undo what had been done and he contended that further proceedings should be in accordance with legisla tian in order to get nd rid of the conse of our acts we must mal e he said some equitable arrangement with colombia tor for it was not to be sup posed that colombia meant to submit calmly tf it he deci declared ared weare to build a canal in manama panama we must pave have the good will of foi fol without it the obstacles would indell I 1 increase hei he said he inserted in his bill the provision for the pa ment of tor for the pacifica tion of colombia because he had bear hear I 1 the president had entered into an agreement tor for the payment of that sum for that purpose he had insert ed this provision as well as the others la in the interest of peace and good will and in afie the interest of a panama canal and of all accrued rights it waa was in tended to meet the emergency and he hoped it would bo ba so accepted by all persons concerned |
