Show antl STRATES mm SPEED on tuesday afternoon ot of this week the entire high school student body and several stenographers from the various offices in town took advantage of the rare amro opportunity of 0 seeing the fastest typist in the world for his age demonstrate on the typewriter mr clarence dills in the employ of the underwood typewriter company gave the exhibition under the able management of mr air corey local manager of the utah branch of the underwood typewriter company mr air bills started to learn typewrite ing in one of the salt late lake business schools in september 1913 less than a year and a halt half ago after he had been pursuing his studios studies tor for only one school year he won the utah school championship by writing at the rate of 70 words per minute he was then only 14 years ot of age and now is slightly past 15 at that time he was immediately recognized as an unusual student and was employed by the above named company and sent to new york city where he received further instruction and training under the direction of the worlds greatest typists such as emil A and others last october he be won second place in the worlds speed and accuracy contest writing at the rate of 94 words per minute tor for 15 minutes now he Ss p writing considerably over words per minute at the high school from practiced material he wrote words in one minute without error in two minutes he wrote words without error changing paper in the machine in the mean time one of the instructors at the high school was requested to ask ash mr air dills questions while he was writing ling from copy he answered all the questions and at the same time wrote words in one absolutely without error after the demonstration was in progress the instructor was asked to furnish some nw new material 1 tho the new nev material cho chosen sen was taken from aror the irwi utah statutes of he e wrote this absolutely without error at 94 words per minute this is slightly higher than the speed of the average professional office shorthand writer in the large commercial centers of the country |
