Show PAGE 13 NOVEMBER Choices Daily Prescription Re: Water Rights in the Milford Valley There are presently in existence approximately One Hundred Fifty Six Irrigation and Culinary wells in operation in the Milford Flat area. Of this amount only 100 are being metered. These wells average in depth one hundred to two hundred fifty feet. Some are much deeper. The surface clay alluvial layer varies in depth from three feet to fifteen feet. The next strata consists of mostly gravel mixed with sand. This sand gravel strata provides an excellent vehicle for migration of water. No consistent clay liner depth is present, it varies significantly from one well to another. The primary source (aquifer), of underground water fro the Milford Valley is by and largely carried along the Beaver River route for both surface and underground. However, an in depth study was made by Phillips "66" Petroleum Co. to determine exact aquifer courses. This information will be made public as soon as I receive Delivery Order by 3:00 P.M. Delivered at 5:00 P.M. Monday - Saturday ~ (cut off time 1:30 on Saturday) eee it. The owners of older and shallow well (100'), more or less are voicing some concerns regarding the draw down when some of the deeper wells are in operation. This draw down could result in more costs for drilling and extending the depth for placement of the pump bowls. Further people who depend on wells are more concerned with the possibility of pollution from surface runoffs. Water Rights are being purchased by Circle 4 Farms and applications for transfers and new wells are being considered and are under study. People of the Milford Valley should pay very close attention to these applications and be prepared to voice objections to the transfers and drilling where applicable. Where surface runoff is a factor the clay liner depth should be carefully studied and monitoring systems should be placed in effect. Emphasis on controlling animal waste surface wash return flows and soil erosion must have first priority. Once aff finding of nitrate is present in the underground water it is then too late. Water is more valuable than land. We must protect and conserve, water, our most vital resource. Sincerely, H. E. "Griff" Griffiths Paid b Citizens for Grif’ Licensed. Milford Drug— 464 S.
