The "Pumpkin Walk" at the Beutler farm in its third year of existence is the brainchild of Ida Beutler according to her cohort Bonnie Smith “She got three or four of us together and said Tve got an idea It’s something I’ve always wanted to do’” Smith said "She wanted to have something fun and spirited It went way beyond what we ever imagined" Smith said Way beyond may be an understatement Two years ago the Pumpkin Walk drew 300 or so visitors Last year the Beutlers gave away 7000 cups of cider before they ran out of cups With calls coming In from Tremonton and Preston this year’s committee is planning on even more visitors than last year Ida said she wanted to present some Halloween fun that wasn’t so scary "Bonnie and I did a big spook alley — the first Fright Factory” she said “We could hear the kids screaming — it was so scary I thought life's too short for all that” The result of her idea for a Halloween fantasy suitable for the timid hearted was a farm-size- d tour on the Beutler property self-guid-ed Ghostly luminarios line the path that meanders manure spreaders through monstrous-lookin- g and farm trucks Indian villages and cowboy sing-in- s In addition to scenes commemorating the bicentennial of the US Constitution this year's Pumpkin Walk features some new additions The “Pumpkinique" gallery offers visitors squash-face- d portraits of The Thinker and Mona Lisa The pumpkin patch of nursery rhyme characters will feature Humpty Dumpty Miss Muffet and Little Preparation for the Pumpkin Walk involves family neighbors and anyone who is interested in offering some help That has ended up involving a lot of people this year Beutler said Cars and trucks have been of pumpkins for off armfuls tote to arriving schoolchildren handicapped and senior citizens to carve and decorate she said One hundred Utah State University students carved Wednesday night at the farm The Beutlers quadrupled their pumpkin patch this year and many more were bought and donated Smith said Beutler's husband Wallace has been pressing 250 gallons of cider from this year’s apple crop Over 600 dozen cookies have been baked to accompany the cider for visitors to enjoy around the bonfire Beutler said This year North Logan City contributed 8300 for candles and flashlights The enterprise is “totally Smith said ’’It's a beautiful community gift” “The happiness you give those who come” is payment enough Beutler said Bo-Pe-ep jack-o’-lanter- |
