M Larson visited the Ephraim Elementary School on February 16 as part of Dental Health Week with an educational program to promote good tooth care Dr Larson gave a lesson In Mrs Dorothy Stoddards Stoddard's first and second grade and Included some pointers on keeping the teeth and gums healthy He said that every school child chUd should learn to appreciate the importance Importance Import import- ance of a healthy mouth adding that dental health is closely connected to general health Since childrens children's lives are affected affected af affected af- af very much by their appearance appearance ap- ap appearance ap ap- parents ought to make sure that the childrens children's teeth are properly taken care of Correct speech is also dependent depend depend- ent on strong straight teeth Parents need to become aware of their childs child's dental defects and by having them correctly repaired avoid some of the possible adverse consequences consequences consequences conse conse- of untreated defects They also need to teach their child to follow good dental health practices to prevent tooth de de- de cay Proper brushing with a good toothpaste an adequate diet with with healthful l between b meal snacks and a visit to the dentist twice each year were points stressed by Dr Larson Dental Denta authorities say that if 11 tooth decay and other dental diseases were as dramatic as poliomyelitis the dental problem problem problem lem would be recognized as a major problem and parents would be eager to provide adequate adequate adequate ade ade- quate dental care for their chil chil- dren Because of the great prevalence prevalence preval preval- prevalence ence of tooth decay in children and youth it has been common practice to give almost ex exclusive exclusive exclusive ex- ex attention to this disease The destructive efte effects ts of tooth decay should not be minimized but there are other dental problems problems problems lems which should be given their share of attention n Dr Larson presented a copy of the book A Dentist of My Own written by Mrs Naomi Dillman Lunt of Cedar City to the school library The book bookis is a gift from South Central Utah Dental Association |
