last work was waa done on friday the morning exercise consisting of 0 a battle between the reda e d s a and n d t the h e blues s the reds ethber ra the e enemy n e ra y h had a d requisitioned 1 a long wagon train of supplies at brigham city and were attempting to get them thru box elder canyon the blues coming from ogden supposedly were ordered to attack the enemy and destroy the wagon train the outposts were discovered near the mouth of the canyon about 10 celock in the morning and a light skirmish wash s li e engaged n g a g ed 1 in n in w which hi c h ti the i e 0 outposts u tp 0 s t s were e d driven r i v e n ba back e k in into to t the h e t trenches r en c h e s i in a the canyon the blues then threw a company forward on the other side of the canyon while another company was b brought r 0 u t u up p from alie south t h and elih west t 0 over v e r the e 1 hill A h heavy rifle f le lire fire was poured into the enemy entrenched which was returned and slowly the reds were driven from their trenches the maneuver was executed by sie sic nals from the officers instructing and demonstrated just how a body ot of troops would be handled in such an emergency at the conclusion of the hattle battle the companies tell fell in and marched to the high school campus where major williams reviewed them for the last time there was martial music the review and then the command moved to quarters tor for noon mess A large concourse of of people in automobiles carriages on foot and on horseback lined the canyon road and reservoir hill to watch the battle and followed the troops accorded luring during their stay the advantages of a company of the guard la in a community 4 were also elaborated upon and the information was given out that the state ought to have more companies seems quiet indeed after the interesting events of last week the visit of the guardsmen guardsman guards men was profitable in miny many ways for it gave the home people an opportunity to see a little of the military and lt it gave many friends an opportunity port unity to renew acquaintances as many of the soldiers had bad friends residing in this city brigham city will undoubtedly be highly pleased to have the N G U visit it again at some future date by which time maybe our home town will supply a company of the he militia |
