L Rampton will be the speaker at the re reo reunion reunion re- re o union and a special patriotic program will be provided by a group Young Uni The was organized In 1917 from Cavalry troops in various Utah tah communities In Including Including including In- In Mt Pleasant Ephraim and Manti Mantl and from rom other national guard units It was made part of ot the regular US U.S. Y armed forces on August with a strength of some 1500 men They mobilized at Fort Douglas and later trained at Camp Kearney California Originally an volunteer all-volunteer organization its numbers were later augmented by men called up by the military conscription program Several hundred men went overseas as replacements for tor other units fighting in France The as a unit went to France in August 1918 but was not called into action prior to the signing of the Armistice on Nov 11 11 1918 The men were returned to Utah in early 1919 and most of them dem demobilized The veterans group now has some dues paying dues paying members but only about a fourth of these together with their wives are expected to attend this years year's reunion along with witha a number of special guests This is the last year November November November Novem Novem- ber 11 will be observed as Veterans Day The veterans veterans veterans vet vet- erans group has decided to observe ob observe observe ob- ob serve the day by Its original name nam Armistice Day and will try to re-enact re some of the joy that was felt so universally universally universally uni uni- on that day in 1918 |
