M SpIeker who had become familiar with the area area through previous geologic Investigations Dr SpIeker chose Sanpete County as a training ground for geology majors because of Its spectacular complex x geologic formations We have have- here the record of events along the broad base of an ancient mountain system There are records of a type that are rarely preserved but they are abundantly preserved here We are able to work with I Ithe the sequence of events that produced produced pro pro- the mountains of this region and also we have been able to find out things that bear on general principle in geology Dr SpIeker says Dr Spieker is at Snow College College College Col Col- lege this summer with a group of 27 high school science teachers teachers teach teach- ers from schools across the na na- na tion It Is Dr Spieker's job to give these Instructors who were selected by the National Science Foundation a general course In geology and and In the na nature ture of science They use no not t textbooks J but learn from from the I earth Itself as they work In Inthe inthe the field This year the Ohio State University UnIversity University Uni UnI- students are placing some special emphasis on the study of volcanic structures and formations made by glaciers as two of their Instructors are specialists In these fields The university students come mainly from the midwestern states state They are listed below Advanced Fl Field id Course fo for Geology logy Majors 8 weeks Ron Bluff Dan Bush Brad Cook Bob Davis Bob DesCamps Des- Des Cam Camps Gene Cene Johnson Steve King Drift Koutz and Bill BUI Tucker Columbus Ohio Don Jost John Olle and Tom Watson Cleveland Ohio Charles Absher Car Carmi ml Illinois Tom Carothers Clyde Ohio Roy Carwile Monmouth Illinois ois James CaUin Catlin Galesburg Galesburg Gales Gales- burg Illinois Sheila Shena Cluggish Newark Ohio Marilyn Dreher Poland Ohio Ed Erb Vicksburg Mississippi Jim French Addson Add Add- son Ohio Ed Gardner Schenectady Schenectady Schenectady New York Fran Gelb Geib Canton Ohio Abbey Somalia Africa Ed Hawkinson Buffalo New York Stephen Hicks Moline Moine Illinois Jackson Gustav-Jackson Guiana South America Ron Johnson Bemidji Minnesota Min MIn- Richard Kness Polo Illinois Grahame Larson Ramsey New Jersey Jerome LemIre Ashtabula Ohio Ed Mullis Newark Ohio Joe Cincinnati Ohio Murray Chicago Illinois Illinois Illinois Illi Illi- nois Steve Richards Marietta Ohio James Morton Grove Illinois Tom Schultz Van Wert Ohio Sherif Sherlf Tripoli Libya Africa Byron Stone Bowling Green Ohio Roger Swallow Wa Wapakoneta Wapakoneta ak oneta Ohio Staff James Collinson Wayne Pettyjohn Chrles Shultz and nd SI Sidney White Columbus Ohio Ronal Flemal William Keighin and Malcolm Weiss DeKalb Illinois Walter Berea Ohio David Nickey Lima Ohio Richard Threet San Diego California Staff Gordon Everett Columbus Columbus Columbus Col Col- I umbus Ohio Dan Rubel and Rob Robert rt Wallace DeKalb Illi nil nois Elementary Geology for College College College Col Col- lege Students 6 weeks Jerry and Joe Borst Columbus Ohio Sue Berger Ohio Donald Burke Sterling Illinois Stephen Cohen Illinois Ron DeHaas Youngstown Ohio Fred Dittman Chicago Illinois Dave Drake Columbus Ohio Steve Etter Rockwell Maryland Maryland Maryland Mary Mary- land August Galandak Westchester WestChester Westchester West- West Chester Illinois Craig GUbert- GUbert son on Newark Illinois Stan Hartman Newark Illinois Laurel Knott Western Springs gs Illinois Michael Lewan Chicago Chicago Chi Chi- Chi cago Illinois Jacqueline Taylor Maumee Ohio JoAnn and Kath Weiss De DeKalb Kalb Illinois George Lostant Illinois Christine Berkely Illinois Larry Von Lehmden Fort Jennings Ohio J t t r i |
