indicates will be run on the opening day of the meeting The conditions of this race have not been fixed They will when Coffroth finds Just what horses of 'class he will have at Tijuana ready for the colors on Thanksgiving day But that there will be an ample number there can be no doubt Already upwards of 500 horses have arrived at the track from Reno St Louis Canada and Louisville and fifteen or twenty carloads are on the way from Latonla and the east Climate Ideal A winter resort with practically a variations of stationary thermometer temperature never exceeding 10 degrees with a hotel equipment second on either the Atto that of no lantic or the city Pacific seaboards and offering even In January and February salt water bathing in a surf unknown to sharks and fishing and wildfowl shooting that cannot ' be matched anywhere San Diego Is in for its banner season Racing at Tijuana under the Lower California Jockey club’s management has grown steadily in popularity these three or four years until It Is attracting to San Diego the hosts of eastern tourists who In other days were won’t to flock to Los Angeles and San Francisco Some of the most prominent sportsmen in the country have planned to bring their horses this way and with these thoroughbreds will ‘come that army of turf patrons who are everywhere classed as “regulars” Winter tourists and alike are generous spenders regulars The racing plant at Tijuana has been Improved both as regard its adaptability for speed contests between thoroughbreds and Its accommodations for spectators ‘until it has been pronounced one of the best cn the North American continent The racing Itself will be managed by the most capable officials liberal emoluments can attract and' the betting will te conducted on the plan Throughout the meeting there will be thirty to fifty bookmakers in the betting enclosure and they will compete actively for the business of patrons of the sport —The ten Lower d close d ' old-fashion- ed with slates up and prices exposed Visitors from New York will not have witnessed anything of the sort since 1895 Nor will there be syndication who-wil- l of prices Mr Coffroth any make it his' personal business to look after the ring will see to that The layers who have planned to come this way for the meeting are the layers who looked after the business of patrons of New York racing through the season that ended at Aqueduct In October — Thomas Shaw Isidor Hammerschlag Jack Atkin Frank Bain ’Bale” Pearsall Edward Bloom Thomas Gallahan Albert Austin John Beck etc The programs of ths races that close overnight that will be decided from day to day will be as liberal as any offered on an eastern track last summer No purse of a smaller value than $400 will-boffered and there will be $500 ' $600 $700 and $800 races every for high-claday platers and handicap-horses The rules governing selling-and claiming races put in operation at Tijuana last winter and copied pretty much all over the continent will Claims must be made apply again twenty minutes before each race and money paid into the treasurer’s office In this way with such sums as bidding after selling races of the sort net will be added to the purses later on Will Become Permanent The institution of permanent racing at Tijuana has been instrumental in bringing many men of means into racing One of the best known of these new recruits to the sporting fraternity of the country is Barney Oldfield the famous bicycle rider and motor car driver- Oldfield who is racing in Kennow has built a stable of tucky his ownjust at Tijuana He wrote this letter to Mr Coffroth from Chattanooga Tenn the other day: “I offered $7500 the other day for a horse which I think would be good enough to win the Coffroth handicap The person who owned that horse un luckily for me wanted $12500 However it is possible that I may yet get a horse good enough to win the Coffroth handicap If I am successful I shall ship him direct to you from with some other horses I intend to race at Tijuana during the wipter" - ss old-fashio- - La-tQn- - (suspended) DALLAS TEX—Walter Kuhn Clarence Brooks Fred Scliliebner Ben Rrownlow II03 Story Jewel Ens Luther Cook
