The minerals industry has recognized this as indicated by the two major conventions being held this week and next in the Rocky Mountain region. Meeting in Salt Lake City Thursday to Saturday are more than 500 persons connected with the industry in some way. Many of these same people, plus 2,000 more' will congregate in Las Vegas, Nev. Monday to Thursday for more of the same. As evidenced by the numerous technical sessions listed by both 'conventions the nations mining men are attempting to swap ideas and processes for the overall advance of the industry, covering everything from actual explodation to production. More meaningful is the unifying approach being taken by both groups. At Las Vegas high Administration officials will speak on national policies concerning public relations, labor and management, outlook for the principal tax problems, stockpiling and government mineral programs. One of the topics to be discussed at the Salt Lake meet Saturday is Greater Cooperation Among Geologists, Mining Engineers and Metallurgists for Metallurgical Planning. The mining industry is one of the nations oldest. Its approach to studying the overall picture of the industry shows that it is also one of the nations most mature. American Mining Congress and Rocky Mountain Minerals Conference goers are to be complimented. They are also urged to take home what they learn at these meetings and apply it, not only in their own field but in all phases of business which require cooperation and understanding. ' Huge Merger Plan fold For Intermountain Firms Reports from Eastern financial circles have been that a large corporation listed on the Big Board" of the New York Stock Exchange, has set in motion a huge merger plan for a large number of uranium companies of the Intermountain region. These reports were confirmed today in Salt Lake City, by the accounting firm of Sugar & Ulmer. They have been empowered to set up a carrier corporation for pany is remaining nameless until all of the transactions are effected. They revealed the program of selecting worthwhile companies for the merger is slightly more than 50 per cent completed, al- though they are still entertaining, and will do so for the next two or three weeks, propositions from companies desiring to join in the merger plan.
