Such a curiosity, added to a strong spirit of free enterprise, led John Van Buskirk to open his own chemical assaying business. Van Buskirk, who came to Denver from Chicago, is now proprietor of the Van Buskirk Assaying Service, which has a completely modern laboratory and is located on the northern outskirts of Golden. He also has an office in downtown Denver. To own his own assaying service has been Van Buskirks dream for many years, but it wasnt easy. First, he had to get an education for assaying. This he got with a degree at Denver University. To make ends meet for his family, he played with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. After graduation from Denver University, he became an analyst in the assaying department of the research laboratory of the Colorado ' School of Mines at Golden, a position he still holds. Van Buskirk has been described by associates as a very thorough assayer. In running his first batch of assays recently, he rechecked them twice in his own and other laboratories. I wanted to be sure my standards are right, he said. And thats the kind of guy Van Buskirk is.
