Show Friday, Angnst UTAH VALLEY NEWb same day, Jan. IT, Third Letter To Bill the Barber 1IIB, two franchises were granted to light the city of Proro for BO years. Bo that when we went to the elty council meeting that day we race I red the surprise of oar Urea. DEAR BILLY (THE BARBER AND YOUR CUSTOMER: Aa I stated In my last latter the Mayor sad City Council as. eepted our offter to Uikt the city of Proro. They told ua Walter Cot. Henry Btagg and Thomas E. Daniels that they would give as our franchise In a few days. The right to light the city of Provo for BO years was rightfully ours accordlag to their promlae. Wo Immediately began to solicit the good people of Proro to ascertain how many would wish the light. They were to have four lights for BOe a month as This is what happened after we bad spent nearly 910,000 to prove satisfactorily to the city that we could light It up. Up to that day this company to of men had not spent set up a pole or streteh a wire to make a light. They waited for as to go to the expense of show. Ing them how It could be done. Then they hired our man, Thomas K. Daniels to teach them bow to go on with the Job. Right here I should like to say long as the franchise lasted. We waited aad waited la good faith for many weeks for our promised franchise. We wondered many times what the cause of the extended delay could be. We finally heard a rumor that was going around to the effect that the Board of Directors of the Proro Woolen Mills were greatly Interested In the fact that a franchise to light Proro elty had been for. They had beea applied 91-0- that the electric business if run by honest men Is the greatest money making business for a elty to engage la. It will help reduce our Increasing taxes and keep our dividends In our own banks. Next time In our number 4 letter I shall continue. I shall of the glee you the history franchise changes this seeond psaaed through, making a few men eery rich, but leering the masses poorer.. WALTER COX LEGAL carefully obserrfhg our efforts and notdd oar sueeeea In lighting the foundry and the three Proro They also now had elty blocks. applied for a franchise so the rumor went We didn't beUere this hearsay. We firmly relied upon the and elty word of the mayor fathers which to as was better than a bond, especially In rlew of the fart that we at their request had gone to aueh groat oar expense In demonstrating ability to light the elty. But the Woolen (Mills board did apply for a franchise, how-ernot until they had seen how It worked at our expense. Now rtjQt here I should like to draw attention to the old adage that blood la thicker than water. This was true BO years ago as It Is now. The mayor and city fathers rould riot grant a franchise to a board of directors of a company so these men formed them-releInto a company of Indlet-daa- ls detached from the Woolen NOTICEr AN ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE REPEALING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDINO THAT WHEN THE CITY OP PROVO CITY ACQUIRES ITS ELECTRIC LIGHT PLANT AND SYSTEM1 NO COMPETING SYS.
