The vital drama were talking about is The Pigeon React, directed by Lou Edwards, which will run through the 27th. This play is well thought out and singularly well written. In only a very few minor places does it fail to provide adequate motivation for the acts and decisions of its cahractcrs. it is an imaginative look at newly budding Christianity growing out of the roots of what is portrayed as the dying and calcifying vine of Judaism. The new religion is shown as reaching down deep into the old roots to gather the ' vital in an and living parts-n- ot to do away with the Law The guard also broke chara- cter at this point. THUInliug Question The Titillating question that to us this play seems to ask is, What should one do when faced with killing the spirit of ; Ihc titillating question that to us this play seems to aski is. The film is actually a play which has been filmed in front of a live audience with nine cameras in a new process called "Theatr-ovisionThe filming took place during the last two days of a tour which broke box office records in every theatre it played. The story centers around President Harry S. Truman, portrayed by one of America's most durable and versatile haactors: James Whitmore, ving successfully portrayed Will Rogers on stage and a television special Mr. Whitmore now attempts, what is believed to be the most challenging role of his career. Some of you who remember President Truman may of disliked him. other may of admired him, but one thing is certain, you couldn't ignore him. Having not seen the movie. can not tell you my opinion. The film will also be shown (on the before mentioned days) at the Wilshirc in Ogden, and the University Theatre in All scats arc S3.50 Orem. and showtimes are at 2:15. There is no real proof of course, but as Lynn begins to watch Judith closely her suspicions grow. Judith spends long hours with Mrs. Tuggle supposedly learning to sew. Tadpoles swim right into Judith's hand when she croons to them, strange smells and sounds come from her room, and one frightening day Lynn sees her conjure up a boy from a nearby creek. Lynn's .parents are preoccupied that summer, so she relics on her friend Mouse for advice in how to handle the Togetfrightening situation. her they consult an ancient book on witchcraft from Mouse's home library and as they read Lrnn becomes even more Seeing is confident that Mrs. Tuggle is training Judith to become a witch. The whole idea becomes even more terrifying when the girls read that witches often use young children in their rites. Lynn now fears for the safety of her younger brother and tries to make sure he is never alone with Judith. Then comes a weekend when Lynn's parents go out of town. They leave Mrs. Tuggle and Judith in charge, never suspecting Lynn's terror. Was Was Judith a witeh? Mrs. Tuggle? Lynn has to find out, to protect her brother and herself. Since these changes comprise the story line, the action in this play is an interior action. Supporting Cast Perhaps because Lou Edwards was so outstanding, the supporting cast seemed weak, often breaking the temporary, fragile thread of illusion created. by and. so necessary to the theatre, at. least in this type of play. An exception was Trish Arrington who seemed to fit comfortably and naturally in her role as Rachael. Robyn Russel had moments when she made us believe she was Deborah, but was unable to be that convincing for the entire night. Louise Ho! instead as Leah did much better in this play Educated than she did in Heart, although the night we attended she ruined an otherwise believable scene by laughing when called an old bat. and comments this play concerning the role |
