In fact, its so horrible, I just dont know how to tell you. You know how it is on ski mornings. We leap out of bed after a good hour and a half of sleep, ready to tackle the mountain, or at least ready to be tackled by it. We brush our teeth, run a comb through our hair, pull on our in the newspapers, then it must be so. Well, my friend, he chuckled, No more C and Ski. I finally convinced Dr. Flake of the seriousness of my concern, and we decided he should invent a new vitamin to compensate for the terrible loss. Dr. Flake went straight to his test tubes and began whispering encouragement to his strept- longjohns, sweaters, warm-upSnap on the boots and then struggle downstairs in the ski lodge to breakfast. We turn to whomever else is at the table and say something like Ah, yes, time for good old orange juice. Got to have that Vitamin C. s. 4-- 649-857- 0) ococci. And, whammo! All of a sudden a little pill popped out that is going to solve all our skiers problems. Eureka! I have found it, screamed Dr. Flake. I am going to name it Vitamin Ski ! Listen, weve tested this new vitamin pill very carefully, and it is vitamin. And truly an dont worry, it comes with a box of Contac in case you get a cold. Vitamin Ski (taken regularly at breakfast) will allow you to party all night after skiing all day. Dr. Flake claims it also acts as a birth control pill taken by either the man or the woman. Vitamin Ski prevents premature binding release and should you break your leg on the slopes, the vitamin pill inflates into a nifty plaster cast. Dropped in a glass of cold water every afternoon at 4:30 PM, the vitamin immediately turns into a Harvey Wallbanger. It eliminates all fear and makes it possible to jump off any cliff safely. And, taken before driving, makes your car invisible to state troopers. And, lastly, if consumed regularly, you will always be able to fit into your ski pants. on you, Dr. So, phooey And, we gulp it down. Oh, boy, have we been had Are you ready for this? Theres this doctor fellow from the University of California who told horrified doctors, nutritionists, and dieticians conferring in New ! deluding ourselves. Says the good Doctor Schrauzer, Vitamin C actually Iowa's a persons resistance to high altitudes. He even tested this awful theory in a low pressure chamber for whatever scientific proof that gives. If a person is going skiing, he may more rapidly show fatigue symptoms and may show signs of altitude sickness, says the doctor. Well, that explains everything. Thats why Im such a lousy skier. Its all because I drink orange juice for breakfast. A skiers behavior may become erratic, and he or she may even suffer hallucinations, the doctor added. This, Im sure you agree, is devastating information. No orange juice at breakfast. Next theyll tell me theres no Santa Claus. I just cant take it, I had to do something about this tragedy, so I went to see my shady friend, Dr. Igor S. Flake, who hangs out in a cave up in Vermont. The mad Doctor Flake was extremely sympathetic, but said if Dr. Schrauzer said Vitamin C was useless to skiers and it was printed jut ALTA CAB SERVICE: by request after 6 PM each evening; check with Alta Lodge CROSS COUNTRY SKI TOURING OUTFIT 3C BonnaTurski orSplitkein turski Reg. $48.00 Garcia Tourboot or Bass Tourboot Reg. 39.95 Reg. 36.95 Jofa Tonkin pole Reg. Last year, after skiing 23 years for fun, Karen won first place in the women's mogul division of freestyle skiing; she placed fourth overall in the World Championships at Heavenly Valley. Women skiing freestyle are generally associated with the ballet category not Karen. For her, skiing has always been killing moguls". Her success in freestyle competition is an extension of that attitude. Growing up in the East, Karen attributes her ability to ski moguls to the fact that moguls werent anything to fear. This same psychology was carried to the West where Reg. 7.95 moguls present problems to people who have skied here all their lives. For Karen, a mogul is a mogul-sometto ski. In freestyle competition, Karen says that mogul skiing is determined not on timed speed, but on how fast one can go down a heavily mogulled slope and stay in control. Never really into training, Karen now finds herself having to train for freestyle competition. She spent a month in Eddie Ferguson's Freestyle Camp in the Les Deux Alps in France and a week with Mike Shea at Trout Lake, New York. With Mike, Karen began her initiation into aerials, which she now enjoys immensely. hing Total values of $99.85 and $102.85 Any combination in a set for only $59.95 Next to the Gondola at the Resort Center 649-985- 2 or 0) CAB: MURRAY the Gray Line (521-7060- ). Having never done any dancing or figure skating as have many freestyle women competitors she plans to take a modern dance class, both to keep in shape and to help with ballet. Ballet takes lot of thought, says Karen. It is the only form of skiing that I have to really sit down and think about how to do. In comparing racing (which she has also done) to freestyle Karen says that freestyle takes a great deal of creativity and imagination. People in freestyle are constantly thinking up new tricks. What is unusual about the sport in Karen's eyes is that none of the tricks" is kept secret. Everyone is really open, and therq is no hesitation about teaching someone to do a trick."
