A controversy concerning the companys failure to comply with Planning Commission requests has waxed and waned for the past two years. The Councils decision requires that Pressure Vessel surround its plant with fencing and that it complete painting of its building within a sixty-da- y period. The portion of the fence which will front Park Avenue is to be made of wood and the fence in the rear will be of the chain link variety. Mr. Robert Bums, owner of the company located at 940 Park Avenue, said the fence will be completed in thirty days and that the painting will be finished in the allotted sixty days. Mayor Price received a letter from Victor Buck, chairman of the Planning Commission at the time of writing, and who has since resigned (see related article), asking the City Council to take legal action against Pressure Vessel. Mr. Buck, speaking for the Planning Commission, asked that the Council either force com- with the building stipulations set forth by the Commission or cause the company to cease operation. pliance Mr. Burns, who had not only failed to implement requested Planning Commission requests during the last two years but who had also failed to appear before the Commission when asked to do so on several occasions, stated, Im going to plead finances. He said economic difficulties had prevented him from complying in the past but that he is presently able to proceed. The City Councils decision contained no ultimatum or course of action pertinent to the possibility that the company may again fail to comply in the specified period of time. Mr. Bucks letter of resignation was read to those in attendance by Mayor Price. It was stated, The Council regretfully accepts his resignation from a highly thankless job. The Council appointed Mr. John Strand as Mr. Bucks successor. In other Council matters, a compromise land trade proposal between the city and Mr. Dan Willard was presented and rejected. Mr. Willard contends land rt which is located behind his be to store and which is Kin-derSpo- included in the Main Street Special Improvement District is his and not the citys. He proposed to trade the land in question for a parcel of city land adjacent to his establishment. Councilman Mary Lehmer noted previous owner Mr. Guy made no claim to the Olpin land and Councilman Jan Wilking stated, Its our responsibility to protect the rights of the city. Mr. Wilking said the issue was a legal question and that a clear-cu- t answer would have to come from the courts. A land trade between the city and the Park City School Board was ratified. The agreement provides the city an area which will give the Main Street Special Improvement District continuity over its entire length. Mr. Jim Patterson appeared before the Council to present a snow removal service he is offering the city. No action was taken on the service, which would include Main Street and Park Avenue sidewalks, pending further consideration. Mayor Price stated he would present the Chamber of Commerce and the Merchants Association with the tentative proposal. The Council voted to purchase a $27,900 Dodge truck which will be employed for road maintenance and snow removal. The Park City Arts Foundations business license was renewed but it was noted that the license permitted the foundation to license artists only, not vendors. In a related matter, Ms. Mar-br- y Davidson applied for a business license for a lemonade stand she intends to operate during the Arts Festival. The Council was of the opinion that the Main Street businesses could not adequately cater to the expected throng and that it would be proper to license vendors. Ms. clarification on the status of the mining companys proposed loading ramp to be located near the Mount Air Market. The Counmembers were uncertain as to whether the ramp was classified as a mining or railroad function. The matter was referred to City Attorney Carl Nemelka for advisement on zoning considerations. 3 Co antd South 6:00 p.m. - PARADE. Summit Women.
