The purpose of the competition, which was held July 30th through Aug. 1st, was to determine the relative merits of Chesapeake Retrievers in the field. The dogs were judged on natural abilities including memory, intelligence, attention, nose, courage, perseverance, and style, and on their abilities acquired through training including steadiness, control, response to direction and delivery.
