Show Wednesday, July 3, iWJTION 1374 Page IB BASEBALL Softballers Win, Cityettes Lose Little League Results Heber League action last week saw the Softballers register two victories to gain sole possession of first place while the Park Cityettes took it on the proverbial chin twice . On Monday night, June 24th, the Softballers posted a 12-- 7 victory over Charlie Brown. The Cityettes were drubbed 23-- 9 by Joes Pros. Hie story as the same for the Park Cityettes on Wednesday night as they were defeated by the Untouchables 21-- The Softballers contest added extreme credibility to the old motto never give up! Down 21-- 7 going into the last inning, the local gals rampaged to gain a 1 trium-o8. 22-2- Wolfes -- Monday evening, June 24th, would best be forgotten by the Devils as game was they were plundered by the Pirates, 20-- The This game also hotly contested with the Cubs edging their foe marked the debut of Sandra Macidey as the first female player in the league. The Devils redeemed themselves by pasting the Braves 12-- 7 Wednesday night, and the Cubs tallied lucky 13 again to down the Pirates 1. The score was Tuesdays game against Uinta Lumber ended tied twice during the game with W-- pulling ahead to stay in the 6th and 7th innings. Thursdays victory over Jordanelle was an equally good game. Good hitting and heads up base running provided the difference for a 6 win. Wolfes-Clu- b has won 4 and lost 3 and are in a tie for 4th place. The PCAs dropped both of their games last week to Colemans and C 11-1- 0. C 9-- MacDonalds. Tuesdays game against Colemans has a well played, hard fought, and close game. In an excellent display of team play the PCAs barely lost Thursdays game against MacDonalds was exactly the opposite. The PCAs could do nothing right as they suffered their worst defeat of the season. The final tally was 22-The bright spot of this defeat was the clear evidence that indeed the PCAs are the most colorful team in the league. The PCAs have won 1 and lost 6 and are in last place in the league. However, their lone victory far overshadows their 6 defeats ! 4-- 3. Sandra Mackley, First Female Player 3. The race will take place in Midway on July 6th and will start promptly at 1 : 30 PM. (The third stage of the Park City race will be run on the same course, a hilly, winding 6.4 mile circuit, at 9 AM that morning.) B.A.R. events are points races, both National and sectional, for the purpose of determining Best All Around Rider in Senior Mens and Womens classes. This will be the first Womens B.A.R. ever, held in Utah, and hopefully will become an annual event, along with the Tour of Park City. Womens cycling has a long way to go in this country. The numbers of women riders are still minimal; support for our races is not always easy to come by. Bit by bit, conditions improve, however. Our races are longer; our courses more challenging; and we are finding the incentive of better prize lists. I wish to encourage anyone who is interested in this kind of sport to come out to Midway on Saturday and support the riders. It is a difficult course - the women will be racing 38.4 miles in the heat of the day. There are some good short climbs and one wonderful fast descent on the course. It should be an exciting event for spectators. I also wish to offer the greatest thanks to all the shops in Park City who have helped us out with the donation of merchandise for prizes. Many thanks to Wolfes for a beautiful powder blue down sleeping bag; the Timberhaus for a good, sturdy day pack; Dollys for a book of bicycle posters; Iron Hollow jewelers for a silver bracelet. Salt Lake sponsors include University Cycle, Ecology Cycle, the Mountaineer, Skiers Salt Lake, Ski and Cycle, Fisher Cyclery, Walt DeLand's Health Foods, and Transition Cvclerv.
