Show The Deseret Sampler, Fri., December 6, 1974 ustangs Record For Winning Four Selected To Preseason 1-- 3 The Mustangs varsity basketball fortunes have gotten off to a slow start with a 3 record in the first two weeks of the season. Despite the losses. Coach George Bruce feels good about the team's potential. We led Duchesne most of the game until our ball handling mistakes hurt us in the last quarter. Against Altamont, we played a better game and did well on the boards. We lost to a good Crantsville team by 7 points with turnovers very costly. THE SOUTH Summit game was close and we were only two points behind with 1 minute to play, but we made mistakes and lost by 7 points, 60-5The Mustangs have faced tough competition in their first four games. Duchesne was a runner-u- p in Region 10 last year and Altamont finished as conference champs in Region 10. Grantsville has a strong team in 2-competition and South Summit finished second in the state tourney last year in JV The junior varsity has gotten off to a fast start with a three win and one loss record. The team registered victories at home against Duchesne 4346 and Altamont 7 in the first week of competition. Team All-Regi- on Fo,,r Dugway football players have been named to the Deseret News Coaches Team recently. Gaining first team honors for region nine were seniors BarT Cardner and l.en Scuderi. Named on the second team were junior Mike Nerdin and senior Mike Magann. Scuderi played halflack on offense and was the teams leading defensive player from his linebacker position. Gardner played standout offensive and defensive tackle. Nerdin was the team's rushing leader with almost 700 yards for the season. Mike Magann lead the team in passing from his quarterback position and was excellent at the defensive halfback slot. The team was selected by the coaches from region nine Region nine players were also placed on the class first and second teams. North Summit and South Summit each placed five men on all state teams from region nine n A all-regi- 1-- A A all-sta- te A 1-- A competition. Forwards Cary Ott and Mike Magann are averaging 15 and 135 points per game with an 8 rebound average. Reid Grawe has played solid defense and has averaged 4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
