The competition was started to give recognition to Army personnel in the fields of arranging and composing music and to give those who possess creative musical talent a chance to take part in the activities of the Army Entertainment Program on a continuing basis. The 5th Annual Intermountain Cheerleader - Drill Team Workshop was attended by 923 girls representing 128 schools from a seven state area. The Dugway girls earned money to go by sponsoring bake sales, a car wash, a swimming party, a water melon bust and by collecting tin cans for recycling.
