This is not to say UTAH KID is a bad recording for quite the contrary, it is a classic. Kenvin Lyman should stick to playing and composing songs; leaving the singing to Cady Simon. It is recommended to purchase UTAH KID for in itself speaking, its value as a collectors item is duly noted. But to play or not to play; there in the ear lies the rub. . Smith, owner-o- f Jims Casino & Saloon in West h Wendover, Nevada on the border, has long range plans to set up a wine center in West Wendover. I shall be expanding my wine list as the word begins to spread that it is possible to get good wine without having to go all the way to Denver or San Francisco, Mr. Smith says. Privately, Mr. Smith is putting together a wine cellar that contains some of the finest foreign and California (yes!) wines. Recently, Mr. Smith and his wife, Charlee (sic), invited me to spend an afternoon and evening, at their Wendover home. We spent the afternoon, a warm sunA riesling ny February one afternoon, Mr. Smith described it drinking a fine Wehlener Sonnenuhr. . That evening we had Louis I Roederer Champagne Brut save the Cristal Brut for great occasions like toasting my chilwith trufdrens birthdays fled pate de foie gras, followed by roast lamb with a Spanish ut La-fitt- e, Rioja to which the word tremendous can be applied without hesitation. The Rioja was a Federi x Paternina Gran Reserva 1959. It is thus now 14 years old. The tannic acids have lost all their sharp edges. The aroma is full and the wine itself plays upon the tongue releasing the most interesting esters. Mr. Smith told me that when he first tasted this great Rioja he wanted to buy every case of it that his San Francisco wine merchant, Mr. John W. Hogan, had. Unfortunately, he had only three cases of the 1959 left. But these I now have. The last course was fruit, hard and soft cheeses, and a Chateau dYquem that was pure sunshine. During dinner I had asked Mr. Smith why he was interested to set up a wine center in West Wendover, Nevada. He told me that one of his liquor distributors had recently conducted a survey of file direction the liquor industry was expected to head off in within the next decade. This distributors representative told me that they found that the most rapidly expanding sector was wines, domestic and foreign. Further he told me that anyone in the liquor business who neglects to take this fact into account may be left behind.
