Show V Editorial SALT FLAT NEWS, SPRING - SUMMER,1973 ' LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Gentlemen: Through the good graces of the TOOELE TRANSCRIPT, I received a copy of your publication, although after three years as- a subscriber to the Transcript this has been the first copy of your paper that I have seen. I find it unique in its presentation of the news and views of things and people in our part of the world, which surely should be of as much concern to your readers as for instance, a hop orgy in the far east. The photographs are immense, the one of Burmesters nose really set me up because after twenty' years, give or take five years or so, I never heard it called anything but a hunk of rock, bet a number of the natives would be surprized to find out it had a name, so much for that. You can get on the track of old Jim Harrison, by contacting our sheriff in Tooele, Cliff Carson, he was apparently quite interested in the idea of a story and said he would be glad to assist you in anyway he could. Suggested that a persons! visit would be preferred and said he would contact the Bureau of Fish and Game, via of radio at the time and also he had in mind another source of information in Tooele, where Jim stayed when in town, as of this time of year, Delta is generally his spot. Got any ideas how we could get this paper regular like, if you. have lets hear about it. - Garbage is a collection of man's ability to oversell and underuse. A historian might delight in mining trash for reasons other than economic. Notwithstanding a past judgement by any historian or other para professional of the past garbage is a fixed commercial escape in todays economic flotsam be it Lira, Yen, Dollars or Pounds. From used , nylons to newspapers, this newspaper hopefully excluded ,' waste commodities have a value in todays market place. Whether in concert for fuel or singular for redemption by a primary processor, the value in terms of hard cash exists. This amount of cash is subject to the laws of supply and demand that exist for every piece of garbage regardless of its individual composition. The column on recycling of used nylons in this paper points up just this very fact. Remember TRASH YIELDS CASH. - A professional finder will discreetly. locate whatever you desire: a service to corporations, banks and private owners. R. Everywhere in America at this time there is an effluvium of opprobrium rising from what is aptly, called underground news-- 1 papers. They smell like it. Like a sewer. I dont wish at this time to bluenose about their vulgarity; there are millions doing that for me. What is obscene about these defacatory papyri is their literary paucity. Take any of them Berkeley Barb , Portland (Oregon) Scribe, Concours of Westminster College at Salt Lake City they are all notoriously subliterate. Their editors have no consistent editorial policy, no eye for detail or parallelism, no eye for spelling, and dont care. Their English and literature professors dont care. Indeed, anybody whos had experience working with his head and his hands. To get this kind of person, we have to make some changes. For the first time, the Peace Corps will take volunteers with wives and children. We will provide adequate living allowances and medical protection for families. Schooling for children. We will provide adequate housing. (Or find it.) Were willing to talk to employers about holding jobs and seniority. Whether we train you, or if you have the skills we need, we'll do what we must to put you where youre needed. . Write us formore information. The world needs all the help it can get.'
