Show Who Is Shoe Tree Really the Vandal? Three juveniles made headlines last week when they were caught for vandalism. Three boys, aged 9 to 11, admitted breaking u $500 window, burglarizing an apartment, setting two files, stealing mail fmm locked boxes, and ing money fmm a store. Amazing? That's only a sample. The startling thing is the past records these Ixiys have compiled. Police said one of the buys lias an arrest record going back to 1958, when he was 7 years old. Anuther has been arrested three times this year, and the other four limes. ' What the public cannot understand is how the police criminals to run and juvenile court allow these junior-siz- e around liaise, able and willing to gel into more trouble, Wliat is even moie serious, no one rail find out who they we, so the public is helpless to protect itself against them. There can be no percentage in protect ing these criminals all rejieaters and apparently incorrigible now by withholding their names from publication. They might be fy'om ITolladay, for all vp know. Because he is protected by kid down the block police arid court policy, the kuld be on parole from juvenile rnurt. and just waiting for a chance to break into your house, set it afire, steal your mail, molest your daughter, corrupt your son. You have no protection, but the criminal lias. Tie is protected by secret sessions in juvenile court, by a law that prevents newspapers fmm publishing his name, and by judges who permit such criminals to run at large, mingle with decent kids, attend srhool, enjoy life the ame as kids who slay out of trouble, arid continue to gain experience as a criminal. lari's face it ihe juvenile court lias not convinced the public id the soundness of its contention that such criminals lire merely sick, that they need love, kindness, and pro-- 1 i ion from the police and the court. The public believes that they need a good lesson, and that such a policy is long .
