They seek to leave the impression that they maintained this pace when they were in power. Nothing could be further from the . truth. The latest such expression came last weekend in a statement put together .for political publicity purposes by Democrats who comprise, the letterhead group Conference on Economic Progress. The conference is headed by, Leon Keyserling, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers ini the Truman administration. The statement set up the 4.5 per cent GNP increase yardstick and then critized the present administration for not meeting it consistently. The facts show that the. A four week course in study and field observation, the program is designed to equip each new employee to better serve the public and department alike. It will also include training :..be engaged . - by otherwise well intended citizens. The foregong was noted today by fishery officials as the Utah regulation dealing with the socking of fish was cited. It reads, No person, partnership, company, corporation or government agency may place into any waters of the State of Utah any species. of fish without first obtaining remission from the Utah State Department of Fish and Game. As noted, the regulation applies to the planting of fish in both public and private waters. The officials said purposes, of the ruling was to assure ithe stocking of the proper fish species for each water and to reduce the spread . of undesirable fi3he3 throughout the state. The regulation does not prohibit the planting of private ponds when properly set up and approved by the department. Compliance with this law was cited as highly important to sportsmen, the general public and department alike if a maximum of desirable fish are to be. produced from the states waters. Anyone failing to comply with the law is guilty of a misdemeanor, and is subject to arrest and prosecution.. Utahs fish and game leaders will poin contingents .from ten other states next week in Sun Valley, Idaho, for the annual convention of !the' Western Association of State Game and Fish Com- such as fish hatcheries, game farms and waterfowl marshes, ' along with familiarization with ic court procedures and other agencies as the Highway Patrol. From 1945 to 1952, the Democrats achieved their goal of a 4.5. per cent annual increase in the output of our. economy just once when the Nation was at peace,- in 1948. In the five peacetime years of the Truman Administration, that was the .sole year in which GNP increased. In the four others, it shrank up. to 11.5 per cent annually.. The 4.5. per cent GNP increase was exceeded in two of the Truman Korean .War years, but it is to be doubted that Keyserling and his dissociates recommended that stimulus as a Constant diet. In the first five years of this Administration, in contrast, GNP gained in four and slid back' in only one year exactly the reverse of the Democrat peacetime record. And the GOP loss, in 1954, was 1.8 per cent a far cry from the top Truman GNP loss of 11.5 per cent. Furthermore: Even with the Korean War,- the Democrats managed to increase GNP by only $41 billion in eight years. In just five years, the Eisenhower Administration boosted GNP by $53 billion $13.3 billion more in three less years. 4,'. 4 . . - Benson Reports Wholesale Trade Is Improving The Census Bureau reported on 2 that wholesale ' trade showed a notable improvement in April. It said wholesalers increased .their sales of the past four years in which wholesale trade has' declined or remained steady in April. Sales of the key durable goods were up 6 per cent over March while soft goods increased by 3 per cent. This was especially noteworthy as durable goods manufacturing is conceded to be the heart of the economic recession. In another encouraging sign, the ratio of' stocks to sales declined eight points a development pointing to the start of large-scal- e inventory accumulation, which will mean more and more sales, for manufacturers. - Jun - . i . t OPPORTUNITY MAN OR' WOMAN Responsible person from this area, to service and collect from automatic dispensers.
