F. C. Green, assistant general manager of Utah Copper Division of Kennecott Copper Corporation, said that since 1953, several hundred thousand dollars have been spent by the company on dust abatement projects in connection with the tailings pond. Meanwhile, the present method being used to keep dust down are proving to be very effective. A considerable improvement has been noted in recent months even though the Arthur spray pumping station had to be abandoned due to the encroachment of the tailings and tfie Magna station was inoperative due to freezing temperatures. Magna Spray In Full Operation the Magna spray However, system is again in full operation and will remain in constant operation to prevent freezing. The station feeds water to a syrtem of 32 interconnected rotating sprays which drench dry areas continuously. At the Arthur plant, an extensive system of irrigation with wet mills tailings is proving effective and is offsetting the abandonment of die pumping station. The distribution of a new cover of wet tailings along the east and south sections of the dike through a tailings pumping system is also proving beneficial, said Mr. K2LS?o Rob STORES ADJUST SEASON HOURS Drop sidered and studied. have been conExperim-nt- s ducted with crust forming chemicals. These work satisfactorily for short pciiods of time after which the wind destroys the crust. Often areas are then inaccessible for further spraying because they are surrounded by wet toiling over which conventional vehicle cannot pass. In this connection, the use of a helicopter was studied. This proved impractical. At the present time, investigations are underway tp develop tho possible use of modern vehicles of the swamp buggy" type. The company recently spent $23,000 to increase the mobility of the present spray system and to expand it. Lightweight aluminum pipe was purchased to replace the heavy cast iron pipe formerly home of the bride's parent. Bishop Wallace F. Sadler performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Luzon Draper, also of this community, are parents of the bridegro.un.
