Among the pottery displayed for competition in the junior division will be a bowl designed by Lisa McCook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland McCook. Lisas creation captured a blue ribbon at the Uintah County Fair last month which made it an automatic entry in the State Fair. Lisa also received a red ribbon (second place) in the county fair for her weaving as Christine and Tammy McCook, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ouray McCook Sr., and Shelly VanderKraats, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David VanderKraats. Tammy, Christine and Shelly also placed second in the pottery division. The girls met every Tuesday evening last school year and were assisted with 722-226- 3, e, ministrative abilities. The young men meet once a week in Fort Duchesne with their instructor Mrs. Richard (Katherine) Jenks, youth development aide with the Utah State University Extension Program. Individualized instruction is given to the boys who are making chokers and headbands. A basic design is used and the young men select the colors for their creations. Mrs. Jenks stated the new thing in is allowing the youth to select their 4-- H projects rather than the conventional way of adult leaders specifying what they should do and learn. We teach culture as well as other things so they will have pride in what they are" she said. Club members include Elston Wyasket, Amos Perank. Jr., Steven Ankerpont, Sonny Williei Audie Appawoo, Art Michael Appah, Terry Cuch, and Shane, Fabian, and Lyle Jenks. The youth leader also works with the teen club of Fort Duchesne.
