Chippewa contestant, Raynae Churchill, was chosen for the third runner-uposition. 13-ye-ar Honorable mentions were given to Patricia Bird, Assiniboine Sioux, from Poplar, Mont; and Jane Sekayunptew, Hopi, from Hopevillea, Aria. The pageant opened July 25 and continued through July 29. Thirty contestants representing various tribes and sections of the country displayed both modem and traditional talent and were extensively interviewed by die judges Raynae Ch orchil Third Attendant PholBs by Al Porrtette p Travel, Prestige Offered To Ute Maiden A Ute maiden to represent the Ute Tribe during 1973-7- will be selected Sept. 6 in Fort Duchesne. Miss Ute Tribe Pageant is open to young ladies who are enrolled members of the northern Ute Tribe, ages never have been married, must be a high school graduate or will have graduated by spring 1974. ' Contestants will be judged on poise, personality, talent (for winners only), traditional Ute dress (can be doth or buckskin), knowledge of Ute culture and people, and knowledge of modern day Indian life and problems. Interviews will be conducted by judges from p.m. A dinner at Bottle Hollow Resort will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available to a limited number. The new Miss Ute Tribe will be the official representative of the Ute Tribe for the year. She will enter the Bliss Indian Utah Pageant at the Sundance Ski Resort in Provo Canyon; the Miss National Congress of , American Indians at Tulsa, Okla.; and the Bliss Indian American Pageant at Sheridan, Wyo. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Kathleen Chegup, Miss Ute Tribe 1972-7and her mother, Blrs. Cess Bernice pooch, attended the National Congress of American Indians Convention in Sarasota, Fla., last fall where Kathleen represented the Utes in the Bliss N.CA.I. competition.
