Show the ENTERPRISE Grads besieged with offers Haroldsen going cut rate? hopes new degree will boost its stature in accounting circles U Thirteen students in the graduate school of business received the first Master of Professional Accounting (MPrA) degrees ever granted by the University of Utah at commencement ceremonies June 10. The new degree program, recently approved by the Board of Regents, is designed to screen and prepare qualified students for professional accountancy practice. Applicants are carefully screened before admission to insure the spedalizied training will be of value to them. The first students admitted to the program averaged a 3.7 g.p.a. That gives you some idea of their academic abilities, said A. Thomas Nelson, accounting professor and director of the program. Candidates are also interviewed by a partner of a CPA firm as well as by a faculty member to determine their potential for dynamic leadership. We also evaluate their written communication skills, Nelson added. The market demand for the new June graduates has been enormous, according to Nelson.
