The dry farming estate of four West Jordan brothers is expected to be transformed into a $1.33 million, 70,000 square foot shopping center by next spring, according to Stanley Dimond, a principal in the Dimond Brothers partnership. Safeway has already committed itsdf to opening a 40,000 square foot store in the defirst phase of the velopment, and Bill Martin of Simons and Company is currently seekin e a drug store and smaller shops for the remaining 30,000 square feet. The property is located on 7800 So. between 2700 and 3200 W. Dimond brothers Stanley, Arland, Lee and Wayne say they will retain ownership of the property and manage the center, expected to open in June of 1979. The brothers obtained the site in the 1930s as part of their parents' estate, Stanley said, and last week, the city approved commercial rezoning of the farmland. Paul Colin, vice president in charge of leasing for Gunn Miller Co., the exclusive real estate agent for Mervyn's, said, I would be very surprised if we didnt" move into the Utah area. Although, he noted "it would be very difficult to comment further." Mervyn's was recently acquired by the national chain, which has been looking to expand its Day-ton-Huds- stores into a number of areas. The move into Utah would be part of a general trend towards eastern expansion by the firm.
