Show mw-- men 4Vtwi- - K The Eagle staff dominates two-yecollege newspaper competiton at Western regionals ar College of Easlerm Utahs The Eagle newspaper garnered nine awards at the 77th annual Rocky Mountain Collegiate Media Association's spring conference hosted in Colorado Springs. Colo., over spring break. Almost 1(X) colleges entered the competition from 4 Western states. We are so excited to win in so many varied categories, we have worked hard and finally got (he recognition we deserve, said Mary Ann Southards, one of The Eagle editors and recipient of numerous awards. She is from Helper. The biggest awardfie Eagle received was a third place overall finish in Best in Newspapcrcatcgory. First place went to The Spectator from Western Nebraska Community College and The Campus News from Scottsdale Com1 ' munity College. In newswriting, Dani Weigand won first place for her story on the Director of Housing Apologizes After Student Complains of Questionable Charges. Weigand hails from Grand Junction. In feature writing, Southards won first place for her story on The School With No Name. She covered the CEUs Womens Conference speaker Stacey Bests life experiences while teaching at a school for the homeless children in Salt Lake City. Another first place was won by Fayth Marrelli, Helper, for her sports feature on CEUs Kenny Pratt, who played for Stop light to be installed at 300 East 400 North Tyler Hutchens staff writer Due to the congestion of traffic at the intersection of 400 North and 300 East, the Utah Department of Transportation has decided to install a traffic light for the convenience of those who use that intersection. The light will be installed to let traffic pass through 300 East more efficiently. The reason the traffic light is needed is because at the hours of 8 a.m.. :30 a.m. and 3 p.m. students from the mens basketball team last season. Bonnie Cook will provide information on women's health issues. She will be joined by personnel from Cast levicw Hospital who will sponsor a health fair. Selecting the correct colors to compliment an individuals coloring is the focus of the workshop by Joan Sellers, from USU's Extension Services. Dylcia Whiting will demonstrate ways to reduce stress while at work. She will also discuss how massage can be used to relieve stress. Because this is a state issue, the UDOTwill head the operation. In order to install the traffic light, the streets will need to be widened to allow lor appropriate turning lanes. Because the streets will be widened, there will be less parkI ing spaces along the two streets. the benefit?; of the traffic light will dearly outweigh the limited parking possibilities, said a UDOT representative.
