The reports state that there were no injuries to two of the occupants of the car who were wearing seat belts. The third occupant of the vehicle suffered bruises and sprains through the chest and back area. This man was NOT wearing a seat belt and the cause of injury was listed as thrown around inside vehicle." DOES THIS ACCIDENT tell us. the drivers, anything? It very definitely issues a firm warning to all drivers and passengers. As this car careened off the highway tearing out two fences and bouncing across the field, it remained upright. Had this car overturned, its prolialile the man being thrown around inside the vehicle would have suffered more serious injuries which could have been fatal. The fact that personnel wearing seat belts suffered no injuries proves their value as a safety device. The Command insists by regulation that you have and use seat lielts when on duty. These belts are available through the PX at a very reasonable cost to the individual and may be installed for a nominal fee by the PX service station; or, the individual may install his own at the Auto Craft Shop. MANY ARTICLES have been published proving the worth of seat belts and asking everyone to use them. This is as far as we can go. The responsibility now rests on you, the owner andor driver of the vehicle. Only you can insist that your passengers buckle up before moving the vehicle. We have lost two lives in private auto accidents so far this year. Seat belts would have saved both lives. In both instances, seat belts had been installed hut were not in use at (he time of the accidents. LET US ALL do our best to insure that we are not the next fatality. Regardless of what your driving skills and record might be, you cannot guarantee that you will not be involved in the next accident. The highways are crowded at this time of year with vacationers who are sometimes overly tired, exasperated and dangerous. Use your safety equipment.
