Upon review of the Utah Revised Ordinance Code Book approval was given by the Council, and an amendment for the dog ordinance was made to include several items already in existence as part of the ordinance. Meeting dates were recon- firmed as to the council meetings. PERSO N AL DEVELOPM ENT Area Class Started Intersted in becoming a neater you? A Personal Development Course offering all phases of improvement began Tuesday, sponsored by the Smithfield Summer Recreation Program. Four classes will be conducted for four consecutive weeks, August 2, 9, 18 and 23. The class is open to girls within the community from ages 10 to 14. It will be held in the Children's Library for I1! hours beginning at 10:30 a.m. The first session featured was "Fashion and You," given by Cheryl Tarbet, Instructor. Miss Tarbet is a USU Graduate and received a BS in Fashion Merchandising Design. Currently she is the Assistant Manager at House of Fabric in the Cache. Valley Mall. Two classes are held simultaneously and after the designated time, the two groups switch places. The second class offered was under the dirction of Nancy Christiansen, Newton, entiNutrition and Exertled cise. Miss Christiansen is a teacher at Sky View in the field of Girls Competitive Sports, Music and Health. She is a BYU Graduate in PE and Music. . Mrs. Gaudia Rasmussen is in charge of the course and has arranged for specialists to present the various classes. Other subjects to be taught in ensuing classes will be in Color in Your Life, skin care, hair care, and styling, manners and etiquette. Girls who are interested in attending are encouraged to contact Mr. Rasmussen at before the next class Tuesday. Official Retires A Richmond native and Utah State University graduate has retired after 45 years distinguished service in national and international public health activities. Malcolm H. Merrill retired as the associate executive director for international health of the American Public Health Association. I)r. Top Horsewoman Takes Long Time In Training Since Machelle Anderson, one of the intermountain areas top horse women, could sit up, her dad has had her on the back of a horse. She says she can't ever remember not riding horses. When she started first grade, she would catch the Kindergarten bus half way thru the school day and come home. Mr. Parker aquired Bar Thunder for the Andersons and has helped Machelle learn to ride her new highly trained horse. Many hours are spent daily learning the proper way to cue Bar Thunder, to get the proper response from him needed for each event Machelle enters. EACH EVENT requires special performance, some events, Bar Thunder's performance is what counts, others Machelles performance is what brings home the trophies. Together they enter eight events, geldings at halter, showmanship, western riding, western horsemanship, hunt seat, English pleasure, English equitation, reining, and western pleasure. In each event a qualified quarter horse judge, looks for style, class and excellence in performance. HE THEN places the contestants as he see's fit: 1st thru 6th places are awarded. Machelle rides in youth also adult classes against the professionals. She has received 56 first place, trophies this year, quite an accomplishment.
