On Sunday May 5th Elder Michael Lawrence Calder-woo- d son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Calderwood held his testimonial in the Smithfield 4th Ward LDS Church house. Vesta Hansen, Smithfield and Emma Forbess, Nyssa, Oregon, friends enjoyed a 12 day tour to the Hawaian Islands. Mrs. Hansen visited her daughter and husband, Colleen and Richard Jensen and family in Ogden. A couple of days before she left Mrs. Forbess also visited some of her family in Ogden. They flew both ways and visited four of the islands, flying from one island to the other and touring each island by bus. Some of the places they visited were the Polynesian Center, Pearl, shows at night and saw lots of Hula dancers. They got to go to church both Sundays, even Mothers Day, while they were there. Michelle Jorgensen, Amal-g- a will soon be marryitfg Brad Dennis, Richmond. Mrs. Lorena Bingham and Jina Tingey both Amalga, gave a shower in honor of the young couple at the home of Marva Hansen, Thursday. Elder Calderwood gave a very spiritual talk, about his ambitions and thoughtfulness to everyone. Present were all his relatives from Coalville, Centerville, Ogden, Park City, Salt Lake City and Smithfield. Cook Of The Week MELVA ALLEN Melva Allen is married to Bishop Nard Allen, bishop of the Cove ward. Mr. Allen is a high school counselor at Box Elder High School. Their family consists of Jeanette, Neil, attending USU and majoring in irrigation engineering; Mike, William, Elaine, Donna and Karen. Jeanette is married to Howard Rawlings of Preston and lives in Melbourne, Australia. They are the parents of Raylene and Ron Howard. Howard teaches school. Mike is on a mission in Seattle, Wadi., and Neal attends USU and at home are Elaine, Donna and Karen. Melva is in the Relief Society presidency, has taught Primary and Relief Society. She likes to sew, cook, read, and takes piano lessons. For sports she enjoys bike riding and walking. She raises a garden and they live on a farm. She likes to be around the home. Her mother is Mrs. Ada Nielsen of Hyrum and they all enjoy get togethers. , Melva would like you to try her four recipes, Tuveson and her mother (both same day) the sons, Ellen, Jim, Bessie and Kenneth drove to Pocatello to visit Ellens mother, Mrs. Rebecca Douglas and took gifts. i Visiting Ellen were friends Verla Noble and Evelen Moody. A son Tommy Tuveson called from Denver on his mothers birthday to wish her a good day. A son James and Donna ' also visited her and brought a gift. They live in Brigham City. A daughter Hettie Tuveson, Roy also visited. Jane and Norman Allport, Downers Grove, Illinois flew here to see their new granddaughter. Daughter of Barbara and Dale Swenson, Richmond, born May 13. They plan on staying here for 2 weeks and wifi take their "" TUNA CASSEROLE 6 ozs. cooked noodles can tuna 41 cup mayonaisse cup celery cup onion t3 Si cup green pepper 1 tsp. salt 1 can cream of celery soup 1 cup sharp cheese Mix together putting half of the cheese on top. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. 1 in-la- w RHUBARB CRUMBLE Mix together and put into a well buttered glass dish the following: 24 cup diced fresh rhubarb 2f cup sugar cup flour '4 tsp. salt Sprinkle 4 tsp. or more nutmeg over the mixture in the glass dish. Now take: 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup quick oatmeal 4 cup flour cup butter 13 tsp. salt Mix thoroughly until crumbly and place over rhubarb as a crust. (Do not pat down). Sprinkle with 3 Tablespoons water and bake one hour or until brown and bubbly at 350 degrees. Serve warm with cream. Delicious cold. Blueberries may be used instead of rhubarb. EXTRA GOOD FROSTING 23 cup powdered sugar or margarine egg, beaten good 1 tsp. vanilla Mix 4 tablespoons granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons water together just to a boil. Add to above mixture and beat with a mixer, fast. (You can add 2 tablespoons cocoa to the hot mixture if you want too). This makes a nice soft frosting. Weeks were honored recently at the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on May 23, 1917 in the Logan LDS Temple. members of Twenty-nin- e their family were present at a dinner given in their honor by their children, and held at the Red Baron Restaurant in Brigham City, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Weeks were both born in Smithfield and have lived in Smithfield all of their lives. Mr. Weeks is a retired farmer and a former bishop of the Smithfield Second Ward. He has also served on the high council of Smithfield Stake, as a high priest's group leader and in many of the organizations of the LDS Church. He served on a mission to the Southern States. Mrs. Weeks is the former Lillie Peterson and has also been active in church and civic organizations. She was a school teacher in Smithfield and in Groveland, Idaho after attending Brigham Young College in Logan, Utah. She has served as president of the Smithfield PTA and is presi- teacher in all of the LDS ward organizations, including many years in the Relief Society ward and stake presidencies. She and her sister, Mary A. Hale wrote and presented many pageants: They are the parents of two sons and four daughters, Mrs. Dean (Marian) Bis-cho- ff, Mrs. Kathryn Olsen, Mrs. (Marjorie) Kay Scholes, David C. CLUB HAPPENINGS SUMMIT CAMP DUP Smithfield Summit Camp Daughters of Utah Pioneers met at the Smithfield Armory Monday afternoon with First Vice Captain Norma Noble welcoming everyone. Group singing, Echo Can- was led by Verla Noble, accompanied by Fern yon, Heaps on the piano. Pledge to the flag was led by Arley Coleman. , The prayer was given by Elsie Hubbard. A history of Norma Nobles grandmother and grandfather was given. A special musical number was given by Ann Tidwell, piano accompaniment by Fern Heaps. Mrs. Tidwell played the harmonica and accordian at the same time. The ladies will continue these excursions once each month until fall when they will start holding their meetings in the homes. CIVIC CLUB The Smithfield Civic Club met at the home of Lois Pitcher with Mary Hill as , Elections were conducted With Verla. Groll as new president, Hope Larsen, vice president, Jane Bingham, treasurer and Ilene Barker, secretary. Phyllis Tout did the installation. Mary Rogers gave the pro- gram.
