Show Citizen Sports First Ward Takes Area Tournament . The First Ward Basketball team has swept through the Bobcats Dealt 4-- A Tournament against East last Wednesday night, following a dismal opening night loss to Clearfield on Monday. Although the Cats gave it one of their better efforts, they fell to East High School, dropping them from further stale tourney play this year. The Bobcats definitely scrapped the entire night as they repeatedly came from behind to tie the game. During the first quarter neither team was able to find the range yet the Leopards managed to stay two points up until Nolan Taylor snared an offensive rebound and tied the game at 6 with a jumper. Scoring 56-5- 3 fall-awa- y by Rob Nielson and Taylor kept East from building to a lead as Gary Bell's two free throws knotted the quarter score at 12. It was much the same story throughout the second quarter as the Cats kept tying the game until Roger Manning hit the front end of a 1 situation and was fouled going for the rebound on his errant second free throw attempt. Manning canned both free throws to give the Cats a three-poin- t margin over East. The Leopards cut that margin to one with a Field goal on a conversion of a stolen pass during a Sky View stall. Taylor hit a jumper with seven seconds left in the half to push the lead back to three going into the dressing room at halftime. , 1' . Taylors two unanswered field goals gave the Cats a seven point bulge to open the second half but East tallied in twelve straight points to move back in front by Five. The fourth quarter was a repeat of the first half as the Cats kept coming back to within one before East finally built to a seven poin lead with complete domination of the boards and superb free throw shooting. Guard Roger Manning's free throws again brought the Cats to within three going down the stretch but a series of turnovers negated the possibility of a Sky View victory. Seniors Taylor, Manning and mark Hadfield finished their high school career on a sad note yet they all performed admirably turning in outstanding games. Taylor hit for a total of 22 points for the night while pulling in 10 caroms. Roger Manning joined Taylor in being the only Bobcats to hit for double figures in the East game with 10 points. He was also able to pull down five rebounds. Hadfield ended with The tournament finale featured the Smithfield team going against Wellsville on March 19. The Cats went undefeated during the second half of league play to qualify for the playoffs. Next year holds a great deal of promise for Bobcat fans as Coach Swan feels next years crop should be a good one with people like Bruce Quayle, Rob Nielson and Sherman Kirk coming back.
