Bring to a boil, add onions, carrots, turnips, bay leaf and celery. Simmer 15 minutes or until vegetables are just tender. Add potatoes and chicken or lamb. Cook until heated throughout. l1 1 rt :.'- WHITE BREAD cups scalded milk (can use 2'b cups water and Vi cup powdered milk) 2 cup shortening (can use lard) 8 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons salt 1 cup warm water and 2 tablespoons dry yeast (2 packages) 34 to 1 cup water 9 cups flour or more Mix salt, sugar and lard. Add milk. Stir so as to melt shortening. Sift flour and add 3 cups of flour at a time. Stir until sloppy after each addition. Knead until smooth, not sticky and not heavy. Let rise until double (about 2 hours). Punch down and let rise again. Cut into 4 sections and roll each with rolling pin and roll as for cinnamon rolls. Tuck under the ends. Place in greased pans. Let raise. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, then 350 degrw for 30 minutes or longer to 3 taste. CEREAL CANDY Boil together 3 1 1 1 minutes: cup brown sugar cup white Karo square margarine Mix: 4 cups corn flakes 4 cups rice krispies 1 cup coconut 1 cup salted peanuts Add carmel syrup to cereal mixture. Press onto cookie sheet. Cool and cut into squares. CORNED BEEF CASSEROLE tablespoon minced onion 1 can corned beef, broken in pieces 2 cups shredded cooked potatoes (left over boiled or baked will do) 2 cup evaporated milk 1 teaspoon salt 4 teaspoon pepper Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mix thoroughly and then press the mixture onto the sides and bottom of a shallow 2 quart baking dish that has been greased. Makes 6 servings. 1 CINNAMON ROLLS Cream together: cup sugar 1 cup dried milk 1 cup shortening 1 tablespoon salt 5 eggs Add 4 cups warm water, 3 tablespoons yeast. Let stand until yeast is softened. Add flour enough to make soft dough and 1 cup raisins. Let rise. Roll into shape and let rise again. Bake 375 degrees. Frosting: Boil together I cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 2 cup margarine, 1 cup canned milk. D. Thomas Saturday. Mrs. Kemp Anderson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas. The others are grandchildren and of Mr. and Mrs. Thom- Bea Bowman, president, and Bishop Sid Karren. A music al program was presented by Diane Hall and Gwen Bafrd. Light refreshments were served to 46 people. Ernest and Fran Westover and their family of Davis, ' Calif., have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Westover and other relatives. Ernest, a dentist, is also bishop of the Davis LDS Ward. A brunch was served to about 45 women of the Lewiston Second Ward Relief Society for their fall social. Afterward, Steven Francom, LDS church social services counselor, spoke on the subject of mental health. He conducted a discussion on the need for good communication between husbands and wives and parents and children as a means to good mental health. Mrs. Helen Szat played a piano solo. Using a as. A humorous and clever skit was presented with characters from early day history such as Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and Uncle Sam. The characters were featured as babies placed in a time machine which told what each had been famous for. Linda Olsen gave a patriotic reading about the signers of the Declaration of Independence and what eventually happened to each one of them. Loretta Blair, Belva Stevens, Doris Weeks and Ruey Hyde, the recently released presidency, were honored and each presented with a flower. Maurice and Sula Buttars came from Flint, Michigan, to attend LDS general conference in Salt Lake Gty. They then spent several days with his mother, Mrs. Elva Buttars. Karen Jackson and her children and Jody Jackson drove to the Salt Lake airport Tuesday to say goodbye to Fred Bauman who was leaving to serve a mission in Belgium.
