Show THURSDAY, TEB. 20, 1975 - THE CITIZEN - 5 Sky View IHIamar Students Visit USU Campus Cache Valley students Reed Christensen, Peter Daines, Dennis Briscoe, Sheri Lynn Zollinger, Jan Bailey, Steve Fleming and Kirk Linford were among the 130 outstanding high school seniors who spent Friday and Saturday, Feb. at Utah State University acquainting themselves with the campus, meeting faculty members and taking competitive examinations. 14-1- 5, They were among students from throughout the United States who traveled to Logan to compete for five University Club Scholarships worth $5,000 each. To be invited to the competition, the seniors had to be in the top five percentile on ACT test scores or be in Nasemi-finalis- ts tional Merit scholarship competition. The exams Saturday helped university officials decide which students will become University Scholars. A similar number of seniors attended orientation and testing sessions last weekend. The family and friends of Sam Austin will be honoring him on his 90th birthday, e Feb. 26, in the room of the Benson Stake House. Her major field of interest is English. Jan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Bailey, 3130 W. 5000 S., Wellsville, and a senior at Sky View High School. She is active in girls athletics, a member of National Honor Society and is interested in majoring in 4-- natural resources. Kirk is the son of Gene and Phyllis Linford, 2345 N. 8th E., North Logan, and is a senior at Sky View. He is an Eagle Scout, member of the chess club, a delegate to the junior science symposium, Key Gub and Young Americans member. His major field of interest is electrical engineering. Steve is the son of William H. Fleming, Richmond, and a Sky View student. He is active in debate, has won awards in debate and science, is a sterling scholar, works on the newspaper staff for the school and was a Young Americans member. Sky View FFA Chapter To Compete In of the five Membership Future Farmers of America Chapters in District 1 will be competing for over $200.00 in cash prizes during the First Annual KLO-FFSpeech Contest. A HONEST-GEOR- Contest The Semi-finand Final competition will be broadcast live over KLO Radio, in Ogden. Newton Schedules Conference by l.eda Sutherland New tun Sacrament services were held in Newton Ward with Norvel Jones counselor conducting. He announced the ward and stake basketball tournament to begin on Wednesday and continue on Thursday. He also reminded everyone of the ward dinner and reunion next Saturday, Feb. 22. All members and former members of the ward are invited to attend. Ward in conference is to be held ' Relief Society, MIA and Primary during the week with ward conference on Sunday. The Sky View Seminary presented the program with talks given by Barbara Ellis and Richard Spheuler and a piano solo by Bonnie Recent visitors in Arizona were Donna and Lyle Cooley of Newton. They assisted their daughter, Kaylene and husband, Martin, who have moved back to Utah where they plan to live in Amalga. He will be working on the family farm. At the present time .they are .living in the Third Ward in Smithfield. On Tuesday Newton Ward Relief Society was held with Annette Benson giving the Homemaking lesson. Also a film on cancer was shown. in quilting were instructed by Mary Rigby; knitting, Peggy Salisbury; stretch and sew knits, Sue Griffin; home management, Ruby Woodward. A luncheon was prepared and served by Donna Christiansen, Ruth Griffin, Jeanette Jorgensen, Sue Petersen and Florence Rigby. Those honored for their birthdays for February were Maxine Hansen, Syd Benson, Pam Larsen, Mary Morris, Arlene Rigby, Anne Herzog, Mar Mini-class- lene Larsen, Sue Petersen, Francis Rigby, and Julie Larsen. On Saturday evening those who attended the musical comedy Ernest In Love" at the Chase Fine Arts Center at the USU were Cleo and Lewis Smith, Marsha Jenkins, Mildred, Debra, Ann and Leda Sutherland, all of Newton; Marcella Willeto, Chris-- ti and Gene Needham, of Logan; Liz Baker and boys of Roy and Etta Ames and daughter of Nibley.
