NATHAN ELWOOD step-grandfath- er, eulogy was given by Dean Rich, a great uncle. The 2nd LDS Ward choir sang Abide With Me, conducted by Theoda Dow ns and accompanied by Karen Hawks. The benediction was offered by Robert Watts, an uncle of the deceased. Concluding services were held at the Smithfield city cemetery, with dedication of the grave by Kenneth A. Elwood, grandfather to Nathan. Pallbearers were all uncles of the deceased-D- on A great - grandmother, Leone Elwood, also survives. At the memorial services the family prayer was offered by William Ellett, a A great uncle. Betty Phillips played the organ prelude and postlude. The invocation was given by Nathan Griffin, little Nathans namesake and a close friend of the family. The LDS Primary children, Nathans friends, sang T Am a Child of God, led by Georgia Dows, Primary chorister, and accompanied by Betty Phillips. Bishop Bischoff delivered the obituary and remarks. Gordon God -frey, Jeff Elwood and GroElwood, ver Palmer. The Smithfield 2nd LDS Ward Primary cared for the flowers. Newton News bv Leda Sutherland - NEWTON Grant Cooley entered the Salt Lake City LDS Hospital for major surgery Sunday afternoon. He op- eration and a quick recovery. Visitors at the home of LaVern and Golden Rigby were their daughter and Mary and Gordon Jenkins of Salt Lake City, and their family. The Jenkinses also visited at the home of his parents, Ora and LeOra Jenkins of Newton. On Sunday, Henry Suther-lan- d was honored on his twenty-thir- d birthday anniversary at a family dinner given by his parents, Leda and Gordon Sutherland. Dinner guests were Mildred, Debra, Ann and Ted Sutherland; Marsha, Troy, Marnie, Corey and Monica w, Jenkins, all of Newton; and Dianna Porter of Logan. Pictures were taken and an afternoon' of visiting was ' 'enjoyed in honor of Henry. ..'ewton LDS Ward sacrament services were held Sunday evening under the direction of counselor Joy G. Rigby, who conducted the worship. The worship service was presented under the direction of the young adults, with Jayne Loveland and Jay Dee Anderson of the young - adults presidency conducting. Advisors Mike Maughan and Totsie Barker assisted. Sermons dealing with the objectives and goals of the young-adu- lt program were given by Jayne Loveland, Jay Dee Anderson, Jolene Benson, Sally Benson and Debra Sutherland. Floyd Salisbury performed Heart Tones at the piano. Additional sermons were given by ward advisors Mike Maughan and Totsie Barker of Newton and by stake advisor Kevin Buttars of Lewiston. - Debbie and Sherri Chadwick, daughters Smithfield, George Arietta Thornley of and Thatcher, motored to Denver recently to attend the funeral of their aunt and Wyatt Elwood. He had been ill for the past two years. He is survived by his parents, of Smithfield; a son-in-la- by Laree Bodily by Evelene Moody and Memorial services for Nathan Scott Elwood, 6, of 183 West 3rd South Street, Smithfield, were held at the Smithfield 1st - 2nd LDS Ward chapel Thursday, with Bishop Dean Bischoff conducting. Nathan died at his home May 13 of 1 .tural causes. He was born May 28, 1967, at Logan, the son of Kenneth Todd and Jane is wished a successful Southeast Smithfield American Falls. Milton Boman of Quincy, Washington, was a Friday-nig- ht overnight guest of his by Evelene Moody brother and sister - in-la- w, Betty and LaVere Lloyd and their family spent the holiday with his mother, Mrs. S. C. Lloyd. Children included Ronald and his wife Peggy and their son Christopher, Gary and his wife Sharene, and Julie, Paul and Linda, their child- the Golden Bomans. On May 17 the Bomans were in Ogden for the wedding and reception of their grandson Kerry Boman and his bride Kathy. The events were held at the White House Center on ren. A wedding breakfast was given by the grooms parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lael Boman, at the Ogden Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Boman and Mr. and Mrs. Don Blair and their families attended the festivities also. All of them live in Sandy except Sharene and Gary, who live in Midvale. Goldie and Stanley Skiby and their son Robert of Logan, and Naomi and Jed Pitcher and their daughter Mandy all spent Monday with their mother, Mrs. Lloyd. Curtis Baker, son ofKer-i- n and DeLoy Baker, was graduated from LDS Primary on Sunday at worship services of, the Lewiston 2nd Ward. Mabel and Dwain Weaver of Eagle are spending a few days with her sister, Elvira Elwood, and doing religious work at the Logan LDS Temple. They will go on to Man-- ti and St. George, where they will also work in the temples there. At St. George they will meet their daughter who has been attending Dixie College. She will accompany her parents home. Uarda and Vernon Elwood of Roy; Verla and Parley Elwood and their daughters of Ogden; Grace and Eugene Didrickson of Salt Lake City; Della and Dallas Taylor and their family of Thatcher in Box Elder County; Dorothy and Alma Burbank of Cub River; and Vilate and George Eames of Preston all spent Monday with their mother, Elvira Elwood. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Preece and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Preece and their families, all of Kaysville, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Williams for the holiday weekend. Mrs. Williams is their mother. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Preece and their children spent the previous weekend with Mrs. Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Beecher and heir daughter of Salt Lake City, and Alice Rawlins of Kennewick, were Sunday guests at the Wil- liams home. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Rudy are happy to have their son and daughter - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rudy of San Jose, here with them for a few days. Guests at the Verlin Rogers home for the holiday were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hansen and their family and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hansen, all of Bountiful. LuDeln Anderson and her daughter Julie of 0 g d e n; William Binggeli and his grandson of Dayton; Dorothy and Joe Binggeli and Ilo and Frank Carlos and their family, all of Salt Lake City; and Fay Mendenhall and her daughter Julie were also guests. The Carlos family stayed overnight on Saturday. Elva and Lloyd Elwood met with her brothers and sisters and their families Monday at the home of Ella and Grant Jones of Preston. The 45 people present are descendants of the late Della and Julius Jepsen. Ogdenites Mr. and Mrs. Clair Marler and their child spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Marler, and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simmonds. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Layne and their family of Bountiful, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Dameron and their family of Idaho Falls, spent the holiday with relatives in Lewiston. Jill and Ronald Bliesner of Vernal, and Minnesotans Robinson Kathy and Huston have been visiting their par Russell ents, Barbara and sister Petersen, and their Janet, for several days. |
