Shanna Chambers and Terry King. The queen's four attendants were chosen on an equal basis this year for the first time in the history of the celebration. These girls were chosen from among 30 candidates participating in the Health Queen Pageant conducted by Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority Wednesday at Sky View High School. These girls will reign over all Health Day activities in the valley. Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams, Tami the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Hansen, Nancy the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Oliverson, Shanna the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Chambers, and Terry the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royce King. Mayor Amoiracp USU Award Even? s Selhedlu Oedl Moalfh Pay Smithfields annual Health Day celebration will commence May 10 with a festival at the Summit School gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. At. this event the third annual Outstanding Citizen award will be presented by the Smithfield Lions Club. The Health Queen and her attendants w ill also be introduced. Fireworks will follow at the football field. Concessions will be managed by Lou Melandez and will be located. in the city park. Theoda Downs o f t h e Smithfield Historical Society reports that the citys Health Day tradition began about 1925, spearheaded by Sarah McCracken, then principal of Summit SchooL Momoiniees President Coolidge 'had suggested that communities throughout the land set aside a day each spring to be designated Health Day and to observe the practices of a-m- good health.. Getting her impetus for the program from the fact that 500 Smithfield children had okay teeth, according to dental checkups at that time, Miss McCracken developed the tradition, and that year she entered 500 local children into the original Health Day parade.
