Show ffi THE CITIZBN Aug. 6, THATCHER BRIEFS Mrs. Frank Roper spent the weekend in Ogden visiting with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Roper. Saturday evening they attended the Quarter Mile Drag races at the Bonneville Raceway in Salt Lake City, in which her son participated. He, along with two of his friends, Larry Roylance and Loel Reed, were successful in capturing first 1970 place in Competition Eliminator in a 16 car field with their car known as Steve Ropers Husky Performance, a 1931 Ford Roadster powered by a 427 Chevrolet Rat Motor. The car was driven by Mr. Roylance and was maintained and built by Mr. Roper and Mrs. Reed. This car goes from 0 to 121 mph in 11.61 seconds in a quarter mile. Cleveland Woman Goes To Arizona CLEVELAND Harold Newsome of Phoenix, Ariz., came to take his mother, Delia Newsome, back to Arizona Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mendenhall and boys spent a few days last week in Enoch Valley helping her mother, Mrs. Wanda Peterson, and brother Pete with their hay. Sunday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Covert and son Eddie visited Bert Orr in Montpelier. Sunday evening visitors at the Covert home were Mr. and Mrs. Gaylin Covert and son of Tremonton.
