Show West Side Girls Successful In Track The West Side girls track short distatnce when the bus peting. They have had more track meets this year than in any previous year. The girls have done exceptionally well. The first two meets were away from home and they had trouble getting there on time. The day they went to Snake River, they missed the turnoff on the freeway and were late getting there. They did well in the events they were able to participate in and even though Snake River outpointed West Side, they were able to outpoint American Falls. On April 10, West Side started to Blackfoot for a meet with Blackfoot and Preston. They had only gone a FOR Carpel SEE Carlson's other bus. They were luckier this time as the meet was held up until WS got there. Blackfoot was first, WS sec-- , ond and Preston third. The WS girls hosted the Soda Springs and Bear Lake girls on April IS. Scores were! WS 6IV2 points, Soda Springs 49, and Bear Lake 29. On April 21 the Preston and Malad girls met at West Side. Although the WS girls worked hard and some of the best performers did not partici pate, they came in second place, with Malad taking first with 61, West Side 46V4 and Preston 45. West Side traveled to American Falls on Anril 24 and were early for the meet this! time. They competed with American Falls and Aberdeen. Scores were West Side 59V6 points, American Falls 51 and Aberdeen 45 points. They tried their luck with two of the big Class A schools; on Monday, April 28. Poca- -' tello and Highland invaded. West Side and beat the WS; girls' team. Pocatelk) had 63 points, Highland 56 and West Side had 32 points. District was held at the ISU, stadium on Friday, May 2. The competition was really stiff in the Class B schools.1 There were 10 schools com-- . Rockland, North Gem, Soda Springs, Grace, Marsh Valley and Malad. West Side won third place at the District meet. The girls who placed at District were: Shirlene Bingham, first, Rebecca Nielson, discus; third, 50 yard dash; Janet Child, fifth, 80 meter hurdles. Mvra Wood, second, 100 yard dish, and third, 75 yard dash; Valvn Hobbs, third, 220 yard dash. LaRae Ralphs, fifth, discus; Valyn Hobbs, fourth, shot put. Jcanette Nash, Judy Kendall and Mvra Wood, fourth, 440 yard relay; Rebecca Nielson, Merridee Merrill, Janis Bastian and Joyce .Perry, third, 880 medley relay. They had a total of 27 points. The Regional track meet was held Friday, May 9, at Blackfoot. Seven WS girls were eligible to compete. My-r- a Wood placed third in the 100 yard dash and fifth in the 75 yard dash, Rebecca Nielson placed fourth in the 50 yard dash, and Shirleen Bingham placed fourth in the dis cus throw.
