TequilaThe Way bu Like It The election of the Carter-Mondal- e ticket will lead to a new direction for agriculture, Roy Hol- man, President of Farmers Union stated. Utah-Idah- o President Elect Carter stated in several farm addresses that agriculture must be stablized away from the boom & bust" philosophy that existed during the Fordbutz term in office. Regardless of who is appointed Secretary of Agriculture, agricultural policies will change. Farmers cannot take all of the risks while following an program", Holman stated. Holman explained, has created low farm prices but this tragic situation for farmers has not benefit the consumer, but it has made it possible for the middlemen to increase their profit taking at the expense of both the farmer and the consumer". across-the-boar- d,' The low farm price has caused a loss in farmers purchasing power and should be a warning signal for the nations economy because of the high percentage of the nations jobs that are directly related to agriculture." Stability in food prices requires consistent return to farmers. Any a who states or thinks that one higher production or lower farm prices means lower food costs is in error and they over simplify the role agriculture plays in the nations economy, the farm leader stated. This is especially .true," he stated, because agricultural exports are a key ingredient of the nation's balance of payments. Lower farm prices mean fewer export dollars for the nation. With the increased costs of energy imports, any reduction hte pricing of agricultural exports will jeopardize the nations economic well being."
