JJ u ' C J '7 auo FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1976 - Matheson Names Major Department Appointments Mr. Lumen Governor-elec- t Scott Matheson this week announced the appoint- ment of several major department heads for his new administration. For Public Safety, Matheson said Larry Ei Lunnen 42,- - will become Commissioned of Public Safety. Lunnen id currently th Director of Utah Bureau of Investigation, a branch of the PtibliQ Safety Depart- ment. TheMurray, Utah native has a ' broad law enforcement back- ground, including service with the U.S.- Treasury Department, Divi- sion of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire- arms. He has worked for the police departments of both Salt Lake City and served as Police Chief of Orem City. Lunnen was Director of the - CTfi or fxis.ndsfiih. dW7 . Public Administration from B.Y.U. He is married to Kaye Robison of Park City, and has five children. Lunnen and his family reside in West Jordan, Utah. e Raymond A. Jackson has nounced his retirement at the end of the year. Commissioner Jackson has held the position since 1966. Governor-elec- t Matheson also onnounced that Anthony W. Mitchell, 36, will become Director of the Department of Social Services, Mitchell is a Brighton, England native who has become a natur alized U.S. citizen. In many instances, local newspaper editors or their wives must supplement their income with other jobs. The struggle to keep local newspapers and the local press going is a dramatic story of great importance to our nation. Because it is this communication among local people that is so important in this Bicentennial years, I want to salute the efforts of our local newspaper editors.
