Wey-he- r, Sr., Salt Lake City building contractor. Mr. Weyher is also chairman of the board of the Salt Lake Area Red Cross chapter and chairman of the Advisors board of the Salvation Army for Salt Lake non-prof- City. Known as Utahns Against Pornography (UTAP), the organization "has been formed through the urgings of numerous citizens and organizations who are gravely concerned about the flood of obscenity which has come into our Utah communities," Mr. Weyher said. Vice chairmen of UTAP are Emery F. Carter, Salt Lake City, executive vice president of Gibbons & Reed Company, and William N. Jones, Alpine, Utah, chairman of the board. Intermountain Health Care, Inc. Other members of UTAFs executive committee include: Mrs. C. B. Z. Norwood, Kastler, Aubrey Jr., David L. Wilkinson, and Wendell J. Ashton. Richard B. Carter is secretary. All reside in the greater Salt Lake City area. Roy W. Simmons, Kaysville, Utah, president, Zions First Na worlds only integrated, computerized alert system used to prevent adverse drug reactions and to keep medications at safe levels, is now in operation at LDS Hospital, according to David B. Wirthlin, hospital administrator. The setup, called Medication Monitoring System (MMS), identifies possible harmful effects drug combinations and drug dosages will have on patients and alerts the physician with specific information and suggestions for alternative methods of care. "The computer is programmed to do what the expert would do," said Homer R. Warner, M.D., the man who first applied computers to medicine at LDS Hospital 20 years ago. Today the hospital is recognized as a leading institution in this area of medicine. MMS is capable of singling out more than 130 known hazzards in seconds as it checks the possible effects of drug dosage levels with the patients allergies and disease state, said Craig Jackson, hospital pharmacy director. Approximately six percent of all patients are affected by alert warnings sent to the physician who prescribed their medication. "Existence of the system does not mean physicians wont detect these problems on their own," he said. The computer just does it faster. Backed by one of the nations computers, largest hospital-base- d MMS is able to provide specific information because it correlates lots of information to make decisions. Information comes from computerized medical histories, lab test reports and drug prescriptions. MMS is an added dimension in complex specialty care for patients at LDS Hospital with multiple illnesses who receive numerous medications from several physicians simultaneously, Mr. Jackson said. He said other hospitals are building the data base and computerization already found at LDS Hospital. "They are limited to simple drug profiles of patients and do not have the capacity to incorporate computerized lab data and medical istories in treating patients," he Howe Urges Retention of Oil Shale Development Guarantee Condition Excellent (continued from page 1) tional bank, is chairman of the finance committee, and Albert R.
